9.3x70 -anybody got one?
HI,
I guess I´ve been brainwashed by husky, boha and lawndart but the 9.3 is a very interesting caliber. That said does anybody own a rifle in 9.3x70? I know that Hermann Göring had one in that caliber but was it ever produced on a larger scale etc?

lawndartHi Cewe,
I will later this year. Can you see if you can rustle me up the CIP chamber and case specifications? I recently wrote to Harald Wolf. He has not yet made the plunge to order the tungsten carbide forming dies for the cartridge, but the case can be made from .404 Jeffreys brass with one pass through the forming die. If Husky can talk someone into making .404 Jeffreys basic brass we will all be shitting in tall cotton.
I was under the impression that my family was from East Prussia, but my father corrected that mistaken belief last week. It seems we are from Bavaria on his side. I guess that explains why I sing marching songs in my sleep.
Can you also check and see if Trieble carries reloading dies in that caliber?
I'm sending a letter to Erkki this week to bring him up to date on the 9.3 x 66 project.

Lawndart: I´ll talk to husky about the specs as I don´t even know where to start looking! Do you already have a reamer etc? This is a project for the future, my next gun will be the 8x68 -that will be a lot of fun!
Lena always seems to fit in doesn´t she?

lawndartI haven't gotten stupid over a woman in a long time. I would get very stupid over her in a nanosecond.
I fell in love the first time I saw her in
The Unbearable Lightness of Being.Once I get the specs I will get the reamer, gauges and dies made. If Husky can get us some 404 Basic Brass I can get a Bunting made. That will allow us to have properly marked brass.
I will mail over some books for your favorite lieutenant to read.
lawndart
Boha bought a new gun yesterday, a WR .318...man some people have all the luck!
I´ll try to get in touch with husky today, he might be interested in one himself as he has most of the other 9.3:s.
Lena is nice but give me a young Brooke Shields any day (NOT as young as in Pretty Baby though!)
I passed the questions on to husky and he should be able to help you-us.

huskyGrüssgott!
Herrn Triebel makes both reamers and reloading tools for the 9,3x70.
http://www.triebel-guntools.de/index.phpAbout high quality cylindrical .404 Jeffery unstamped brass -i am working on it and are making progress, have patience!
Linda and I are still vaitng on to start up that invasion of Zimbabwe...
Husky
Thanks Husky!
I knew you were the man for the job.
I think the 9.3x70 will be my project for 2007, this year I´ll do the 8x68.
23 March 2006, 09:02
lawndartCewe, Husky,
I will get some money over there this summer so you guys can buy a reamer and die set to mail to me.
I have every faith in Husky and the Norma brass. I have patience; it is just the waiting around that I can't stand.

lawndart2007 makes sense (such as it were) for me also. Triebel wants 286.00 Euros just for a reamer

.
Having just found out that my father's side of the family is from Bavaria (they left for the USA in the 1860's to avoid the Franco-Prussian wars), I am ashamed to admit that I don't Sprechen zei Deutsch.
Could someone look at this listing and let me know if it might have the chamber dimensions listed for the 9,3 x 70M:

Lawndart,
Husky is on a trip and will be home tomorrow. I can try to get boha to look at the text, he´s quite fluent in Deutsch. My German is best when I´m severely drunk

My German holds no standards whatsoever, although it beats that of Cewe's, even both of us drunk, but i do believe the CD "Paula" has the cartridge and chamber dimensions for almost all calibers. Patronenlager=chamber. Patrone=cartridge
The information should look like this and be very informative. This is the crt dimensions for the splendid 9,3x63, which is, of course, the only 9,3 worth having - 9,3x70 is for people who can't get any closer..
I got the picture from Dave at CH4D, and I believe he found it on the Paula.
Oh yes, Lawmdart, I cleaned this one up, as you said nicely.
Its amazing what a little new chequering and some redoil can do to an old belgic bastard 10,75:
boha
I have first dibs on that 10.75 if you´re thinking of selling!

mehulkamdarBoha,
Another masterpiece from you. But then, when you post about a gun, one cannot expect less.
Beautiful rifle and thanks for posting!

lawndartOnly about eight people in the world care about this, but..
After I get the PA.U.LA. CD-ROM I will have a reamer and dies made.
After my rifle is done I will send the reamer to Boha and see if he can resist building a 9,3 x 70 Expert Magnum

.
This rifle will be easy to build on a Winchester action. The magazine box is a piece of flat steel that is cut to shape and wrapped around a mandrel before the seam is welded. You can get four cartridges down by just making the sheet of steel a little deeper.
Boha,
Where do you get brass for your 9,3x63? It looks like 9,3x64 brass that had its neck ground shorter by one milimeter

.
The 10.75 looks very nice. I like the colour of the stock stain. The russians used an ounce of blood from a virgin to make their version of that stain. To this day red died stocks are extremely rare in Russia (except for some rifles with splotchy red die jobs from 1939-1943).

lawndartHi Alf,
I'll send you the reamer print when it is done. You are welcome to use the reamer as well. I'll have a die reamer made that will work well with the chamber reamer.
Ralph would do an awesome job, and then some!
Bolt action or single shot falling block?

I would go for a 9,3x65R Brennecke in a falling block rifle.
Lawndart, the 9,3x63 cases are made from 10,75x68 brass

huskyBy the way,
i just bought this Mauser 98 by Zella-Mehlis in 9,3x57 for USD $100.

What shall I do with it?

And you are one of the reasons I teach my children that life is not fair!

Husky,
A nice gun went to a nice guy which proves that life is fair!
Yesterday I had hopes of finding a "very nice gun, like new" that a friend of a friend had for sale. I spent an hour looking for the guy and when he dug out the gun it was the WORST Moisin-Nagant I´ve ever seen. You guys wouldn´t believe how bad it was.
"I´m only asking for a couple of hundred.."
Jesus, a hundred yen would have been too much! I would not have taken it for free!
BUT one of these days a wild goose chase will pay off and I´ll find something like your 9.3x63.

Hey -- I was a nice guy once!
I guess I should have put one of these in there to show I was just kidding!

Congratulations on a great find.

lawndartHusky,
I am so sorry for you that you can only afford to buy those old rifles.
Do you want me to mail you an article from
Handloadermagazine on reloading the 9,3 x 57?
Could you take some more pictures of that rifle for us?
Thanks,
LD
Jens,
Thank you for the lead on the brass. I sent an e-mail to Johannsen today.
27 March 2006, 20:32
huskyHi Lawndart,
Yes, I would be most thankful if you send me that article!
I have not yet picked up the rifle, the photo is from the seller, maybe it's not worth the $ 100?
I will have my licence in a week and then I will send some more pictures. "boha" has also a AG Zella Mehlis 9,3x57, so I just had to but one after that he also bought a 9,3x63

29 March 2006, 00:03
huskyWe will find something nice for you cewe!
Here´s something to calm your nerves; rapid unloading of 177 rounds of .22 lr.
or something special:
9,3x64 - easily opened to 9,3x70. I think?
The drop at the comb might just suit a wookie..
Boha: Since you´ve gotten me hooked on rifles with a straight comb I have a hard time liking a hogsback. Your fault, you spoiled me.
Husky: I saw a .22Hornet "from a Suhl maker" advertised for 120E...might have to look into it.
29 March 2006, 23:48
Dave JamesI have kicked around building one, every since I read the article on it,, even talked to Charlie Sisk about his 9.3 on the 8mm mag case, even considerd using the "Rum" brass as a parent case..
Just wish you huys would build one for us to look at..

lawndartNot to worry Dave,
My 9.3 x 66 is just waiting on a Krieger barrel. The 9.3 x 70 will be ready for viewing about this time next year. My 9.3 x 64 is being finished up by Mark Stratton "soon".
