Loading data for 250-grain Ballistic Tips in a 9.3x62?
Help, I need loading data for the Nosler 250-grain Ballistic Tips for use in a 9.3x62. I am trying for a light load for my daughter, so that she can get used to her new elk/Africa gun.

Mauser action with Lothar Walther 24" barrell:
All Nosler B-Tip 250 grs.

1) RWS cases, Rem 9 1/2 primer, IMR 3031 #53 grs. 2413 fts. OAL 3.233"
2) Norma cases, Rem 9 1/2 primer, H-414 #60 grs. 2419 fts. OAL 3.226"

Be carefull please, this loads are good for my rifle, maybe not for your gun.

I got this out of an article in Rifle Mag. #215 - September 2004

There was an article on all the 9.3s and I got this load out of it.

It states velocity of 2500 fps but I don't have a chrono so I can't verify that.

I have had good accuracy with this load.
I shoot an old Mauser 98 Husqvana w/ a 24" barrel.
Unfortunately 250 BT are discontinued.

This should work well with the Accubonds when they come out next year(I hope).

We load our 250 gr. bullets with up to 63 gr. of IMR 4895. Start at 58 gr. and go up in 1 grain increments until you are getting pressure signs. I use Lapua cases and have some on their tenth firing and still have tight primer pockest. This is a load over 60,000psi but my rifles love it.

You ask for light loads and are getting heavy loads.... Roll Eyes
See Handloader #219 pg.23 "Reduced Loads with Hodgdon's H-4895".....They state that Hodgdon developed the "60% rule" where you simply take the maximum H-4895 charge for any bullet and caliber for which it is used in the Hodgdon Manual, multiply by 0.60 (60%) and use the result for a reduced load.....You can of course use any charge between the 60% charge and maximum charge....Maximum charge of H-4895 listed in their lastest Annual Manual for the 9.3X62 with a Barnes X 250gr is 55grs.....60% X 55grs. = 33grs. reduced load starting load...
For 38-55 type loads try 17 to 21 grs of 2400...
If you try this please report back with your results...cheers~~~ Smiler

My load is 45 grains of H4895 with the 250 grain ballistic tip. Not too accurate (1" groups at 50 yards) but you can shoot all day. I like to shoot at plastic jugs filled with water.

I prefer this to a lighter load because there is less chance of double-charging the case. That is, if you put in a double charge, it will overflow the case.

When I started working up light loads for my 9.3x62 I settled in on 32 gr of SR4759 pushing the Nosler 250 gr BT giving me about 2000 fps and a group size of just over 1 inch. The same charge moves the 286 gr bullets at about 1850 fps.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help. I had not heard of the 60% guidance for 4895, but it is consistent with the information that I have for reduced charge match loads in the .308 and .30-06.
