MikelravyI need a "basic" hunting rifle
also I like the JC Higgins. Will be cheaper by far in the long run as new rifles in that price range are cheap disposable pieces of crap IMHO

TerryRKEEP THE 375
plus
1.) find a used 30-06/270/7mm-08/whatever and use that as your primary hunting rifle or
2.) pick up a used/new Marlin 336 in 30-30, fill same with leverrevolution ammo. That will give you a 200 yd rifle. For east coast whitetails that little honey will work just fine. If you get a yen for Elk/moose/bear just use your 375.

LBGuyif money is a little tight right now for you, attend a few local gunshows. you will find numerous 30-06s and 270 winchesters. pick a ruger 77 mk2, rem 700 adl or bdl, a savage with a real walnut stock (or plastic if you like), and you will be set for anything you might hunt. keep the 375 just in case you go to africa.
