The Rugers make a heck of a rough and tumble hunting rifle, not a safe queen. The .45-70 will no longer be your best friend.

Congrats!

I'm another one with high regard for both your rifle and the cartridge you chose. Ya done GOOD!

When you get a chance, try some Barnes TSXs in the rifle...they are astonishingly accurate in my two .338s (neither one happens to be a Ruger, but...), and they deliver wonderful performance after impact on game, too.

I added a Timney trigger to my stainless MkII, an easy job, but even before that, I'd worked the stock trigger down to a very useable and crisp let-off. Again, not a tough job, and instructions can be found on the Web and maybe right here at Accurate Reloading. If I can do it, anyone with the normal number of thumbs should also be able to do it. Improving the Ruger trigger makes the MkII MUCH nicer to shoot.

Enjoy.

Thats about the most popular rifle in Alaska. Its tough accurate and very dependable.Mine has shot 3/4" groups at 200 yards with factory ammo. Its very rugged in that it will hardly need anything but some grease and a little oil.It sure beats my Winchester model 70 stainless 50 to one.The Winchester stainless was nothing but trouble.
