Ruger MK11 .338 Laminate V Synthetic & will I get lucky
I don't know how it happened but I swore I would not buy another Ruger..............................................well I have a Ruger MK11 .338 win mag stainless synthetic on the way for a dirty wetaher rifle, did want a M70 stainless .375 but they where $635AUS dearer. If this thing will shoot a 3 shots into 1"-1.25" I will be happy. There good value at $795AUS with rings. And I think there a tough rifle.

Any way I got thinking should I get the laminate over the synthetic stock, would offer any advantages/dis advantages for a wet wetaher knock about gun ??

And will I get lucky and get a good Ruger Confused

Also thinking about the 225 gr woodleigh protected point bullet as the first bullet I try.

I'd like to have it myself!

I got a Ruger M77 in .338WM years ago that needed a bit of TLC to get it shooting. A good bit of it's inaccuracy was induced!
I let the gunshop talk me into porting it. Mad Never again!

I bedded, lapped the lugs and did the trigger as well as lopped off the porting and put a bench style crown on it. It now is as accurate as the trigger man. Tighten the forward action screw first, then the back and just snug it.

I'm using the 250gr. Woodleigh PP over RL22, WLRM primers, Rem brass. If I can hold still they land overlapping each other. Nate

I've got one in .308 and love it. All I did was drop a Timney trigger in it and adjust it to 3.5 lbs. 'Bout a 30 minute operation.

I guess I must be a lucky bastard because all the Rugers I've ever owned shot very well.

The ,aminate might be better and tame the recoil more perhaps ?

My buddy got one he also brought some 225 gr rems that we were just going to shoot up for brass ect.

Well the darn thing started out with putting those remingtons into less then .750 So I told him no need to reload or do anything to this rifle.

The rifle just plain shoots.
Well now my blued 77MKII is a 1.5 in rifle Oh Well I guess that it well kill things just find.

PC,
No ... this is a dirty weather gun ... stay true to its purpose ... synthetic/stainless all the way. First time you take a slip on a steep as buggery Sambar hill and belt the stock, you'll know you made the right choice. Big Grin And when your sick of it, it'll make a sweet 416Taylor.
Cheers...

Con They do make a sweet 416 taylor That is what I built mine on. I took a brand new MKII stainless had a douglas 416 barrel screwed on. It works great.

Con,

I may have taken the bait for the laminate, it looks so nice....................I have told my gun dealer I will take a laminate for the extra $100.

But you have added some food for though again as usual may have to reverse the decision nut

But god the laminate looks so nice...............................and felt natural in the hand.....................I have PM'd you before reading this reply.

In regards to rebarrelling to a Taylor .416 I wonder if a re-barrel to .458 winnie is actually more practical ??

The other thing I thought about last night.........wondering if anyone had done it is the .458 win necked down to shoot .423 .404J bullets............you would get your 2400 fps easier with 400 gr bullets due to a little more surface area abd response to faster powders perhaps ??

PC,
Bob did a laminate/stainless Ruger in 458WM a few years back and it was sensational looking. The bigger hole made the rifle a little lighter as well. The cartridge your thinking of is the 425Express ... or close enough ... 300WinMag opened to .423. Still reckon that for a bad weather gun, to be soaked, hauled through the dogwood etc... then synthetic is best, could even camo paint it.

I was thinking about a pair of laminate stainless guns one in .338 win the other in .458 win what a great pair beer

I will look up the ballistics of the .425 express.
