What size to choose?

Hello, I launched this survey to see who answer me. Considering that I have three rifles in calibers 338 Winchester Magnum, 375 H & H Magnum and 458 Lott what caliber of those in the survey complements my battery better rifles?.<BR><BR>Thank you,<BR><BR>Oscar.What size to choose?7 mm Remington Magnum300 Weatherby Magnum257 Weatherby Magnum

Seemed to me that you obviously need a flat shooting rifle that won't rearrange your dental work like your other three. The 257 Roy would fill that bill quite well and it's a little lighter and flatter than the other 2.......................DJ

I would use it for a roe or stalking of deer rutting. My ideal would be a cheap rifle (at the end I'm thinking about the Weatherby Vanguard). Thanks for the interest to both.

none of them, i would get a rifle chambered for a sensible cartridge such as a 6.5x55 or 7mm-08.

Not much difference in power between 300 WBY and 338 WIN. I'd go with 7mm; fairly broad range of bullet weights and good trajectory. Vanguards are good rifles.

The truth is that is affordable and logical choice, especially when I need to spend the least money. In Spain we are in crisis.

I think I have already decided that my purchase will be a Vandguard in Weatherby Magnum 257 Weatherby. The only thing I like I always have to save money, at least the rifle is quite affordable.

I have an older 257 Weatherby that I put a good Wiseman match grade barrel on after I shot out the factory barrel. It has a gorgeous stock. I seldom shoot it anymore. Not real sure why other than the fact it is very heavy. No recoil to speak of, extremely accurate. I have always shot 115 gr NP's at 3500 FPS. Deadly as hell on deer! Never had one twitch after being hit. In fact I do not believe I ever saw a deer drop they went down so fast.

Hey, the truth is I would throw distances of 250 and 300 meters at most. I know that a 308 Winchester (in Spain is only banned semiautomatic weapons) would suffice, but plays much too fancy factor

Oscar,

What I meant by heavy is that the rifle itself happens to be heavy. It has a pretty dense piece of wood on it. A fairly heavy barrel (with a little bore). A 4.5 X 14 X 50 scope. Mine just happens to be a gun you might not want to tote up and down mountains.

Hello, in the end I choose the most common and tested: 7 mm Remington Magnum. The reason is simple, the price of ammunition less than the Weatherby cartridge, plus an armory of Northern Spain (Asturias) where I bought two of my other rifles I've heard of an offer from the rifle Weatherby Vandguard rifle with scope Pentaflex 2,5-10x50IR and fix mounts for 750 euros (1,075.34 USD). What do you think?

I voted 7mm Rem Mag but am a huge .257 bee fan. The 7 can be loaded with 120 bullets which is about max weight for the .257 and then on up in bullet weight to 195 gr to complimet the .338 as back-up. If not a handloader the .257 bee gets the nod.

Nice to find a descendant of Spanish. You know if you come to Spain I am in a locality in the capital of Spain. If you know Spanish sent a private and we can have coffee and talk about guns and hunting.

The 7mm Rem is a very versatile caliber. I have done well with it on game from small South Carolina deer to kudu, wildebeest and gemsbok. It's a one-shot kill caliber on almost anything with the proper bullet snd proper shot placement. I own two. The 7 Rem is an excellent caliber.

Hello ovny! Take a 300WM , a better allround cartridge for Europe ( and for Spain !). You can shoot all our game and the heavy mountain game at long range .The 7mm RM is a little bit marginal for wild boars, especialy if you shoot on running game, and the 257WM, very not popular in Europe, a cartridge for roe deers at long range but marginal for ibex in the moutains !

The Weatherby Vanguard in 7mm Rem Mag is a fine choice! I voted for 257 Wby, but there is nothing wrong with the 7mm at all. Especially if you do not handload, which I am not sure you do. Good choice, and you will be able to find ammo anywhere you go in the world, very likely.

I voted .257 Weatherby.
But I think you made a great choice. The 7mm Remington is an excelent and versital cartridge.
But think you eventaly get yourself a non magnum cartridge.
One that heats barrel less , and is cheaper to shoot.
The .308 is the 1st to come to mind...tj3006

Many years ago, some likable guy by the name of Jack O'Connor wrote about virtues of a 270 Winchester. I saved my pennies and bought one as my first rifle. Today with 65 rifles in 23 calibers in the safes at the moment, 80% of the time I reach for one of the 270's unless the game and distances call for something a little bigger....and you definitely have the "bigger" end covered.

I really like the 7 Mag as a choice. If you reload, then maybe the cost of Weatherby ammo isn't a factor, but if it is, 7 Mag ammo is MUCH cheaper than Weatherby ammo.

I like the 257 if you are reloading I suppose, but I like the 7 if you do or if you don't!

A Vanguard as you described with the Pentax scope sounds like a very good value to me also!
