Actually, for 99% of the people that hunt, it's not about the meat. It's about the tradition & the hunt, not even about the kill. The meat is an aside for most, the hunting itself is why many of us hunt, JMO. FWIW, for those of us that have been fortunate enough or work hard enough to be able to hunt in Africa or other countries, we do it, again, for the hunting experience, not for meat. Please don't deride those that travel to hunt just because you don't.

I use to let the goings on in parts of Africa cloud my judgement. Now, as soon as I get enough scratch, I'm there! Oh hell yeah!!!
If someone is worried about the meat, fear not the Natives and hunters eat it. Many a report on Elephant hunts include the nearby village collecting the meat and whatever else.

Also, "meat" is not all that hunting is about.

It is in the animal world. It is in my world.

I do not trophy hunt...

Good.

Others hunt just to be able to say they have shot various kinds of animals, hence "Grand Slams".

Not hunting. Sportsmanship.

Sometimes hunting may also be about self-protection, or the protection of one's family, pets, livestock or property.

Predation.

Still other times, it is just to proove to their peers or themself that they are competent at it.

The superior vitamin, mineral and aromatic content of wild venison will make this weak person stronger. It is win, win. They build their confidence and build up their flesh.

One final reason may even be just because they enjoy it; imagine that!

That is the problem. Can afford to waste money.

(You apparently believe you are God's personal emissary, sent to "judge" all those guilty hunting sinners, so I'll leave that weighty world issue to Your Eminance for resolution.

Who is going to do it then? God needs a Man to keep order on this earth. The hippies, tree huggers and lefties are just that, backwards. There is no authority or power in their message. The men involved in these movements are most often effeminate, the women, angry.

I'll stick with the little stuff, like doing my best to keep me and my family well, paying off the mortgage, etc.)

Keep feeding them moose! Smiler

And you apparently believe you are God's appointee to that role. But what if you aren't? What if you don't really know what God wants encouraged or restricted either? What if you spend your life defaming the pursuits of others to the point of coercing them to abandon a good, healthful activity which God wanted them to do? (He/she/it did physically & psychologically, genetically, etc., equip them to hunt, even if they don't need to do it for food.)

Would you also ban Canadian Football League games because they produce no food but require large amounts of jet fuel to get the teams to where they can play each other? How about the NHL? I mean, they are both just flagrant examples of "sportsmanship", are they not?

That will pose a bit of a moral quandry, if you find out you weren't doing God's work at all, just abusing others because they don't believe the same as you, won't it?

Well, I feel for you. It is never easy being God, even if just by proxy.

One easy to find reference I WILL give you, this from page 709 of Webster's New World Dictionary:

"Hunt - 1. to chase (game) for food or sport. (Note the "or sport") 2. to serch eagerly or carefully for; try to find."

Seems maybe you have perhaps mistaken part of the definition of that English word for the whole thing.

My country gal's just a moonshiner's daughter, but I love her still.

Hit my 750lb. dressed bull last year at about 100 yd facing me with 06 with 180 Federal partition. Blew the top of his heart off. He kept coming ( called him in, he was hot) straight at us until he finally dropped at about 30 yds, and 3 more solid hits. I sure agree with all the guys that know better... they don't know they are dead for awhile!

To get the Fish and Game to make laws for larger calibers is a waste of time and not a practical approach to your quandry..You simply used the wrong bullet in a great time proven caliber. The general public would have you tarred and feathered if you got the 30-06 off the legal list, and rightly so! shocker

A better approach would be for you to use the 200 gr. Nosler, (out penetrates the 220 gr. Nosler btw) or one of the good monolithic 180 gr. bullets...

Too much emphisis is put on caliber alone these days..placing a properly constructed super premium bullet in a proper place solves most of these ills...
