Ok, if you had to go with a certain style of rifle, which would it be and why? Currently I own a Remington 700 and Kimber 8400, and wish I still had my TC Encore. Of course, I've owned lever action, semi-auto and pump in the past.BoltLever ActionSemi-AutoSingle ShotTC Encore

HunterJimM-Blast,
Bolt rifle is the most flexible choice, but I admit to liking single-shot rifles as a fun choice.

if you're too busy to hunt, you're too busy.

SDhunterI can always load my bolt action one at a time to make it a single shot.

I prefer bolt actions because that's what I grew up with.
All the others are fun to play with. But when I'm hunting, I'll take what I''m familiar with.

nordrsetaI own more bolt-actions than any other type but I expect most of my hunting could be accomplished quite neatly with a three custom Ruger No.1 single-shots, in 220 Swift, 300 H&H, and 405 Winchester, all with 28 inch barrels. And a single shot would make bear and buffalo hunting even more exciting...

Almost like driving a car where you need to pump the brakes several times before they works

cobraI own mostly bolt actions but my favourite and the one I use most often is a Remington 7600 carbine in 30-06.
I like bolts but love lever guns as well !!

Yep, I will absolutely agree on that. Kiplaufs, drillings and double rifles are also very nice

fredj338I own bolts, single shots & levers, if you count my Garands, semiautos too. The bolt gun gets the nod for accuracy, power & verstility. I suspect it will always be this way.

cndrmI own both Bolt and Semi-auto rifles.
Inherantly, the bolt action is more accurate than the Semi-auto. But Semi-auto has a much faster follow up shot capability (if needed).-Obviously the idea is the optimal 1 shot kill.
But, in the end, my heart truly lies with the Semi-auto's, but only in combat rifles.
For hunting, give me bolt.

These three rifles see the most action:
M700 270
99 Savage
NEF Sportster 17HMR
I voted bolt action. I have 15 or 20 bolt action milsurps and three bolt-action hunting rifles.
I shoot bolts more often because that is the style of rifle I have the most of.

Paul BWell, I must be the oddball here.

My preference is for the single shot, usually one of my Ruger #1s. I hunt mostly deer and have no desire for critters that want to bite back like the great bears, although I would not feel handicapped with one of my Ruger #1s in .300 Win. mag. or .375 H&H. Just deer and an occasional elk hunt when I can draw the tags. I've hunted deer long enough in my lifetime that if I don't get one that's OK. Just as long as I can get to go.

That's what counts to me.
