ranb40How heavy should my 338 RUM barrel be?
I am going to put a 30" barrel in 338 RUM on my M700. I estimated that a cylinder shaped barrel will weigh about 8 pounds, a heavy palma about 5-1/4 pounds.
The barrel will be profiled for a suppressor 4" from the muzzle, and will be fitted into a nice sturdy heavy stock. Total weight will be about 13 pounds with the palma barrel. Will the extra 2-3/4 pounds in the thicker barrel help me much in the accuracy department or just help take the edge off of recoil? Thanks.

grizz007sure would be good to have a packer along with me at times like you, carry that beastie is going to be a task
ranb, a "noise" suppressor? or do mean to say a recoil?ha. sniper material if you ask me.
all that weight, should not even be a kick. I owned a .375 RUM and it was a cinch to shoot with just ported bbl and scope and weight may have been 9 lbs. if that.--one the most accurate shooters I have ever parted with.

ranb40It will not be a hunting rifle, I have a lighter 375 whelen imp for that. The 338 RUM will be a target rifle.
I am making a form 1 sound suppressor for it. I am leaning towards a heavy palma like my 308. I am a bit sensitive to recoil, so I like the heavier rifles.
