Anyone tried the 275 swift a-frame for .338 caliber. Am looking for tough bullet for friends kodiak bear hunt this spring.

I saw an article in a book about somebody who used it in a 338 Win on African game and was very happy with

Consider Woodleigh bullets also. They make 225gr, 250gr and 300gr .338" bullets. The 300 gr bullet would probably be a good choice for big bears. (I have no experience hunting bears.) I purchased a .340 Weatherby with the intention of using the 300gr Woodleighs for plains game in South Africa. I just ended up taking different rifles the two times I've gone. I still haven't gotten around to trying the 300gr Woodleighs in the .340 yet but I intend to. I do know that Ray Atkinson has used them in his .338 Win Mag in Africa and been very pleased with them. (That's based upon reading some of his postings here. I don't know Ray personally.) Hopefully Ray will chime in on this thread and share his experience.

Woodleigh bullets can be purchased on MidwayUSA's web site.

Just my two cents.....

The 300 gr. Woodleigh is a great bullet at 2400 to 2500 FPS, I don't know about faster...It sure has worked well in my standard 338, but in a 340 I couldn't say...

I would guarentee any weight North Fork would work and you can drive it as fast as you want, and then some...

The 250 gr. Noslers will work great in the 340 Wby as they are a little hard for my 338 Win...

The 250 gr Partions are good in the 340 and the 250 Swift A-frame is even better. It will out penetrate the Nosler and retained weight is incredible. The 275 would be excellent at close range.
