Now that Oehler are history, which chrono to buy?
I appologise if this subject has been beaten to death.
Now that Oehler is no longer available, at least that is for the forseeable future, whats the best of the lot left out there.

I was leaning strongly towards PACTS latest model till I read quit a few vary negative reviews of same at MidwayUsa. That leaves me to chose from only Shooting Chrony, CEDs Millennium Chronagraph, and one or two more whos name escapes me at this moment. I am not interested in any chronos that the screans and chronograph are one unit.

All the info and data i have read over the years seems to indicate that all chronographs are relatively equal in the accuracy department. Its the reliability of function in different lighting conditions that seems to be the single biggest head ache.

So based on anyones personal experiences, which chronograph should I buy?

Greatest of thanks to any and all who take the time out to help me with their input.

Regards, Art.

I've been using a Pro Chrono for years.. Much better than the Chronies that I've had. They seem to be much better in poor lighting and not as sensitive to lighting conditions as the Chrony.

Very Happy with the CED. Have my own, but also all the official competition shooting cronographs here in Africa are CED's. The variation between the six machines I have tried is less than 1% - which is more than I can say for the Chrony's. Guys who develop their IPSC loads on a Chrony invariably need to check them over one of the three official CEDs or borrow one from those of us who have our own.

We have a three screen Oehler at the club and the readings from that are basically identical to the CED's (the one competition CED was calibrated in South Africa and we checked the other two official ones against the Oehiler and the calibrated one- all good!) Also the CED's work well in bright sunlight - something my old Chrony did't like and we have very few cloudy days!

I have an older Oehler and a CED. The Oehler Model 43 is still available if you want to go that route. The Oehler M35 was discontinued when the integral printer went out of production.

I have the Oehler 35 without the printer. Why could they not offer that option again. If you keep records in a log book you really don't need the printer.

Me too. No complaints whatsoever. But I only use it during the daytime.....

I'm on my 3rd chronograph. Started with a ProTach back in the 80's, was stolen, bought a Pact PC², stolen too, then bought a Chrony. The Pact was hands down the best. The Chrony is very finicky about lighting conditions. When I buy another, it'll be a Pact.
