BighornBreathWhats wrong with the 300 SAUM ?
I knows its a Crapington and has been left in the dust by its Winchester brother but rifles chambered in this are almost being given away. I was wondering what the pro's and con's may be. I reload so I'm not worried about ammo availability. Do they have any feeding problems ? Thanks for the input.

Paul HI think it was primarily an issue of a Johny come lately round. Winchester had already gained marketshare.
I would lay in a good supply of brass if you get one, because Rem is notorious for leaving loaders high and dry on the less popular chamberings.

ReloaderIt's definitely not a cart for a non reloader.
It's a good cartridge as far as I can tell, I have it in a sendero and it shoots several loads less than 1/2". The speeds I've been getting are inbetween the 30-06 and the 300WSM, similar to a 30-06AI. It's very similar to loading for the WSM rounds. H4350, H380, H4895, and R22 have worked well for me w/ this round.
Good Luck

TerryRWhat's wroung with the 300 RSUM?
Nothing.
I've seen whitetail, impala, lechewe, zebra and kudu taken with it. My buddy has one. It works, period. If you fancy it I would say get it.

analog_peninsulaWell, I just bought a 7mm SAUM because I couldn't turn down the deal. The cartrige looks great as long as you don't mind handloading, which I don't.
Actually, I would probably have preferred the .300 SAUM to the 7mm, but the 7 was the deal, and I didn't mind, since I already have a .308, a .30/06, .300 Win Mag and a .300 RUM (see a pattern here?).

DwightI have a 300 SAUM in a Sendero and really like the accuracy. It falls in between the 30-06 and 300 Win Mag. I have lots of brass and no worries for the future.
Good luck with the 7mmsaum. It should serve you well.

HogWildI would like to replace my 350 Rem Mag with a 300 SAUM. Where are they "nearly being given away"?

Thomas JonesMy opinion on the short mag in general, is that they were concieved by maketing guys as much as gun guys.
They work fine but so do all the cartridges that came before them.
The marketing people tried to convince us that a round that was almost as good as a 300 win shooting from a short action was a worth wile iprovment. I don't think it is. a standard length action is just fine.
Now if you are a bench rest guy it might matter, but I shoot better than most hunters
and most of my rifles are capable of shooting at least as well as I can shoot them.
in short
they wasted lots of R&D and advertising money to build and sell a better mouse trap. Who needs it...tj3006

SDhunterAbsolutely nothing, big question is if it's chambered in a rifle you like.
Basically 30-06 performance in a short action.
There has been a Model 7 sitting on the shelf in the local gunshop for quite awhile. I keep looking at it, but then I already have 5 270's and three 338-06's at home.
Now if I was to liquidate all those...I would only need one gun...but then I would probably just go with a 30-06.
Hence the problem with the 300 SAUM.
