m61fanremington 700 safety stiff
i bout this gun a few years ago.It is a remington 700 adl 30-06. I love the gun/ great deer rifle has claimed a few for me that is why i want to fix it so bad.The safety is stiff as all get up.but if you lift the bolt just a little it is easyer much easyer i have took the gun apart and found nother that was causing to bind but i am no gun smith. It doesn't strike me as dangerous just agervating and has caused my 300 to come out of hiding if i expect to have to shoot quick. but the 06 works better on deer. any advise would be appricated thanks m61fan

BobbyIf this is one of the old Remmy's that the safety also locks the bolt closed when on, then I'd say the slot in the bolt that the safety block engages, is causing the problem. Too narrow, in the wrong place etc.
If it's the newer safety that does not lock the bolt, then I'd say it's difficult to tell, because all the safety does is block the sear, inside the trigger group. This "should" have nothing to do with the position of the bolt.

Rich ElliottCould be the detent ball has a flat spot on it or is out of round. It would be an easy thing to replace and see if it helps.

wooferi agree with rich. i have had a few do it. used guns that had seen some nasty weather. very crusty in there. take the trigger completely apart and clean it up good. look for burs also. i use a little rem oil and a piece of scotchbrite and they clean up nice. relube with a teflon dry lubricant. works very well.
good luck.
