CZ scope bases, no dovetail?
Picked up a used CZ550 in .308 today for practically a song. Gun is in good shape, bright rifling, decent stock (to be replaced anyway), two spare magazines. A bit of freckling on the bolt and extractor that I'm working on getting out now.

The odd part is the scope mounting situation. There are no dovetails on the receiver and it looks as if there wasn't any milling or alterations done to the gun?? Front action ring is round, rear is flat. The gun is marked CZ550 right on the action, along with MRI MPLS MN, and Axxxx serial number. Anyone have any leads on bases and rings for this?? A cursory google search hasn't turned anything up for me yet.

I might've found what I'm looking for. It appears to be a CZ 550 "Minnesota" version. They came drilled and tapped for Remington 700 bases. So I guess a set of Tally lightweights are in order. Now to figure out how to get a Bell and Carlson stock made for hinged floor plates to fit my detachable magazine model. I'm hoping it's just going to require a little dremel time on the stock?

That rear bridge look awfully flat for a Remington 700 rear base.

Try to look unimportant. Your enemy might be low on ammo.

Let us know what you find. Never heard of a "Minnesota" and I agree that it looks a bit flat for 700 rear base.

My "Mountain Eagle Rifle by MRI Mpls, MN USA" action was special made by "Sako Finland" with (what I remember was said to be when I bought the bare action and stock) Remington contours instead of the Sako dovetails, so I guess they could spec them however they want.

the pics of the action and stock in this thread could be mine (it isn't, just the markings on left of receiver are similar except for "MRI" on mine vs "Magnum Research Inc")

I guess I should have read the original post more carefully. I associate MRI with Desert Eagles and forgot they used to or still do import CZs. Then I would guess MRI modified the action and created what you have (if it is an earlier dated gun) or CZ now caters to MRI and produces the actions or whole rifles to these specs (if it is more recent). CZ I think saw a great potential in the US market given the large population of the States and gun culture and with CZ-USA started producing more models for Americans. I.e. Rifles with no iron sights, "american style" stocks, etc.

As to the Rem...OK. Even the Rem action in the pic from Brownel's looks too flat to me so we will chalk it up to optical illusion or bad memory. It was just an impression anyway and it looks like I was not alone in that thinking. But even if I were...

Main thing is, it should be a good rifle and you should enjoy it regardless of features/finish. Wink

Remington 700 Talley lightweights fit it perfectly. Going to stick a Swarovski Z3 3-9x36 on it and see what I can do about retrofitting it to a B&C stock. Weighing whats involved between getting the DBM to fit the stock, or how to convert to hinged bottom metal.
