Does any one know if Winchester has plans to make the new model 70 in .338WM?

yes, the mod 70 comes back again...

I know it's back, but the website doesn't list a caliber bigger than the .325. Just wondering if anyone has heard or read about it coming out in the .338WM.

It might not be listed yet, but I see no reason they wouldn't chamber it, its a pretty standard round.

The articles I've read have indicated the 300WM and 325WSM as the largest calibers in current production. I would expect for the 338WM to be eventually offered; it is a Winchester caliber and is popular.

I called them and asked if they were going to offer any african calibers and also,if they will open their custom shop.This lady told me that this was something they hoped to do from the begining.I guess they are taking day by day and seeing how there sales go before going ahead.I hope they offer something like the 338 in the coming year.

Prepare yourself to be aggresive and buy a Connecticut M70 is .338WM. Don't wait.

My gun shop got his dealer copy of the 2009 Winchester catalog today. The Model 70 section was ambitious; a new stainless synthetic M70 (looks like the earlier coyote model with the three air/cooling slots cut in the front part of the stock) - all the typical chamberings. Biggest news was several versions that now list the .338 WIN MAG (even a FW in the .338 WM - that will be fun!) I should have tried harder to memorize details, but they plan to expand the line up in 09 (probably see them in November 09!)

I read with wild anticipation the article in one of the gun rags about the new M70 feather weight classic in 30-06. Did any of you folks see the average accuracy of the test? Disgusting! 2.3 @ 100..... Could'nt believe my eyes...there goes my plans for a new classic. smoker1

I would not worry too much about the accuracy issue. I have yet to shoot any rifle that shot groups as large as those indicated by any gun-writers. IMO they must be incredibly poor riflemen.

I am not a accuracy fanatic, but I don't own a rifle that won't shoot into 1.5" groups with most shooting under an 1". I had been waiting for FN to start up as I wanted to buy a Featherweight Calssic in 300 WSSM. You have to know the rifle this writer was issued didn't come off the end of the line. If attention to accuracy isn't where it should be then what does that say about the balance of the rifle?
I aggree with you about many of the writers not being excellent riflemen but then niether am I smoker1

I've had one of the new Model 70's on order for about two weeks. I ordered a Featherweight in 7-08. Hopefully, it will arrive soon.

2.3" is nothing to write home about. However, many people seem to think that the average lightweight sporting rifle is going to shoot 1" or less right out of the box, and with factory ammo, no less!. I think such performance is a little unrealistic to expect from a production-line rifle which has had no special attention, especially one with a wooden stock. I would also be very surprised if a knowledgeable shooter could not make one of these perform a lot better, particularly if handloaded ammo were worked up for the individual rifle.

The Winchester rep at the NRA meeting this year was cautiously optomistic about ramping up the old production. As one would assume, there will be some growth that needs to happen before the line gets to its former glory.

If we want to see the M70 of yore, we've got to buy the current ones!

Well, I answered my own question. I got a look at the Winchester 2009 catalog, and the model 70 will be offered in .338 WM, but who knows how long that may take. Now we'll have to see if the .375 comes back.

now they just need to offer in LH!
