wasbeemanI've used the old style Grand Slam in a 7-08 with no complaints.

friarmeierIn my .270 I've used 150 gr. Grand Slams (Speer Nitrex) & 140 gr. Fed. Trophy Bonded (non-tipped).
My feeling is that the Grand Slams expanded better; however, in my rifle they were significantly less accurate than the TBBC.
I will say, though, that there probably is more difference in my memory than there is on actual hide, flesh, & bone.
Given the choice, I'd use both, or whichever shoots better.
Good luck!

DoublessI loaded the 145 grain Speer GS for years in my son's custom '03 7 X 57. I used 45 grains of AA 4350; the rifle shot to one hole, and deer shot with the GS were typically "drop and die on the spot". Very little collateral damage, but a hole roughly an inch in diameter when the ribs/lungs were punched.
I don't think you can go wrong with the GS...

AtkinsonI would probably save the TBBC for elk and use the Speer GS on deer in a perfect world..however they both will work to perfection on about anything you want to shoot with it..they have for me.

Texas KillartistBoth great bullets. Load them both and check them for accuracy. I did not know the TBBC came Ina 7mm/150. I shoot the TBBC in .270 & .308 . My 7 x 57 did not like the 140 TBBC very much, but I did kill Nilgai bull at short range w/ it.

N E 450 No2The wife and I have used the ols style pre plastic tipped 165gr TBBC in Federal factory loads in the 308 for a lot of different game from coyotes to bobcats to heyena, wildebest, and zebra with excellent results.
I have also used the same bullet, in 200 grains in a 300 Win Mag to take 2 elk, amd a couple of red foxes.
It expands even at long range on elk, 400+ yards, and on the red fox at 350 yards, the bullet was found in the snow.
It is one of my most favorite hunting bullets.
On small game even up close, like a bobcat at 30 yards it does not blow up the hide as being a bonded bullet it does not fragment.
On BIG game it expands to a large frontal diameter and holds together for deep penetration.

JDA-COWhen Federal started loading the TBBC, I used it extensively in .308 and 30-06. I killed several bear, several elk and a truck-load of hogs with that bullet. It always performed the same: Perfect penetration and blam-flop. It's a hell'uva killer!
I switched over to the TSX (for unknown reasons?!?!?) and like it about the same.
