cz 9.3 x 62
Gentlemen:

does anyone here have experience with the FS 9.3? It looks like a very handy rifle. I think it something my wife would enjoy using next fall for her moose hunt.

comments, photos of your FS would be great!

thanks,

Jeff

I love my 550FS 9.3X62. It is very accurate right out of the box and I shoot it well. The 9.3X62 is easy to work up loads for. CZ 550's tend to be a little heavy for their chamberings; have your wife handle one, if she doesn't mind the wieght it might be an excellent choice.

thanks remington. the 20" barrel will appeal to her as it is a nice compact design. I would have some work done to it including reshaping te stock and adjusting it for correct length of pull.

do you have any load date you can share?

Hopefully she is not recoil sensitive?
I have a 9.3x62 with a 20" thin profile barrel, built on a 98 Mauser action and a light plastic stock, a fairly light rifle overall and with full power 285 grain loads it has enough recoil to get noticed.
I am shooting 62.5 grains of Ramshot Big Game in Graf brass, cci 200 primers and 285 grain PRVI bullets at 2360 average fps. I also load the 270 grain Speers with 64 grains of Big Game. All of these loads shoot .6" to 1" groups very nicely.

My CZ likes the 250 Barnes TSX with 59.0 of RL- 15...

My rifle likes 57.5Gr. of RL15 in Graf's brass with either Hornady 286gr. Interlocks or 286gr. Nosler Partitions. I get 2300fps with the 20" barrels. Brass life has been excellent so I beleive this load is below maximun in my rifle. Varget and H4895 also work well.

Even if your wife doesn't mind the abuse, the heavier FS might be a good idea. Also can download the cartridges so there is not as much abuse.

My 550 FS is very accurate...my only beef is the stock is not well designed for target acquisition with the 30mm Kahles I stuck on it....

Mine is a shooter too. Handy, about the same dimensions as a model 94 carbine.

7.4lbs in Turkish Walnut. I don't think the FS (full stock) comes in plastic.

BTW... that's a beautiful rifle. Top that off w/a 1.5-4 X 32 scope and you have a very traditional looking Africa rifle.

I got my moose with one in 2005 in northern Manitoba. The guides told me to keep shooting until the moose was down. I shot three times in quick succession, even though the first shot was probably lethal. Nice rack for Manitoba at 57" wide. I shot a 550 FS with 57.5 grains of RL-15 and a Nosler Partition, 286 grains. Sight was a Leopold V-II 2-7x.

I practiced with about 300 rounds of reduced loads, using whatever bullet was cheapest and H-4895. You can really throttle the load down with H-4895 to the point the rifle is a pussycat (I think I was about 20% less than maximum load). Next week, I will go for deer with 286 grain Norma bullets and 55 grains of RL-15. The H-4895 was unobtainable last time I went shopping.

Oh yeah, I added ~5 ounces of weight under the butt plate. Not sure if it helped much with recoil. Practicing with reduced loads helped a lot.

I love mine. Very handy little rifle and shoots great. Really likes 286 Nosler Partions. I had mine rechambered to the 9.3x64 thumb

It's a very handy rifle. Mine has a Leupold 4X with Talley QD rings. I use 58 grs of RL15 and a 286 gr Nosler Partition. It's accurate and enjoyable to carry. I wouldn't part with it.
