OK, I know its a little late to be asking this question now after I have already order a 9.3 X 62 CZ 550. But, here goes, What can I expect in the way of recoil with this rifle. I mean, is this sumbitch gunna knock me on my ass? How would the recoil compare to my other rifles in 7MM-Mag, 300WSM, 30-06?

While naturally greater than a .30-06, I found the recoil of my CZ 550 9.3x62 to be relatively mild. A 286 gr bullet at around 2300 fps gives a nice push/shove instead of a sharp jab. If your .300 WSM doesn't bother you, then I think you will have no problems with your 9.3x62. The ol' 9.3 really doesn't beat you up. My gunsmith (and friend) also bought a CZ 550 9.3x62 after he saw mine. He's mostly been a small bore shooter; 6.5x55, 6.5-06, .270 Win, etc. The first time he fired his 9.3x62 he told me he was surprised that the recoil was much milder than he had expected. It's now one of his favorite rifles. I think you're going to really like your 9.3x62.

When I first fired my 9.3 CZ 550, it was much milder than I was expecting.

Also, it's more of the heavy push than the more painful (to me anyway) fast punch of the faster magnum cartridges.

I have a CZ550 American. Recoil is low ... less than a 30-06 in my opinion. Even when loaded with 286s at 2425 fps.

The rifle is light and handy. Don't even notice the recoil in the field. Does a heck of a job on game!

Personally I cannot tell the difference in recoil between my 9.3 x 62's and my 30-06.

It will be like shooting a very heavy bullet in your 30-06. Instead of a 180 grain at 2750, it is a 250 at 2600. Mass times velocity squared. It will be more noticeable than a 150gr in your 30-06, but you shouldn't be able to tell the difference between it and a 180 or 200gr in your 30-06. It is on the receiving end that it reall shines. After I shoot a few .375's and .416 Rigby's the 9.3x62 is like shooting a .270. Actually I don't think it's any worse than a light 180 grain .30-06.

I have the same CZ550 in 9.3x62 with the American stock. My experience is the same as the guys above - compared to a .30-06 of about the same weight the 9.3x62 has a little more recoil but the difference is small. You are going to enjoy the rifle.

My LH Win 70 9.3 is quite light and it recoils
a lot more than my .35 Whelen Imp.
I was shooting my LH Win 70 375 same day and it was easier to shoot? With the 250 grain bullets the 9.3 was fine with the 286 at 2450FPS in my rifle it is a handfull.

When I put my rifle together I found that it was going to weigh @ Six and a half pounds, after very little consideration I added a pound and a half of #8 shot mixed with epoxy to the grip area of the Choate stock.

Recoil with the 285gr bullets at around 2,400 fps is a whole lot less than I'd expected and the rifle is just plain enjoyable to shoot. Caveat to that though, I think a .45-70 Guide Gun is fun to shoot and I'd plink with MStarling's .470 if I could get it away from him.

The 550 American in 9.3x62 has a great recoil pad, much better than the one they put on 550 Americans in lighter calibers. Also, the stock is broad at the butt. It kicks somewhat more than a 30-06, but if you're comfortable with the cartridges you mentioned in normal sporter-weight rifles, the 9.3x62 will be a no problem.

I have done quite a bit of hunting/shooting with a 9,3x74R double rifle that weighs 7 1/4 lbs without scope.
The 9,3 with 286 grain bullets is a very good killer. Recoil will be quite a bit less than a 375 H&H.

Most 9.3x62s recoil about like a 35 Whelen or a 30-06 with 220 gr. handloads IMO...

I load mine pretty hot and I have a 26" barrel and recoil is right up there with a 300 gr. bullet at near 2400 FPS and a 320 gr. bullet at 2350 FPS...but still a good deal below a 375 H&H I suppose...
