270WSM vs 7mm Rem Mag
If you reload is there enough difference in these 2 to bother with one over the other?

Exclude ammo avaliability etc, just performance on game.

I simply prefer the ballistics of the 7mm bullets,so the 7mmremmag would be my choice.

One of the reasons for me picking a 7 mag was bullet selection. You can get quite a bit heavier rounds for the .284's as compared to .277's.

Doc
Never owned a WSM but am impressed with the 270 version. I do, however, own, shoot, and love my good old 7 Rem Mag.

If I were to get a new rifle, it would be the WSM but only because I've experienced the 7.

I have had 7mm RM's and now have a 270 WSM and a 7mm WSM. I happen not to like belted cases and like rimless bottle necked ones and finally I can shoot what I like.

The 270 WSM will handle most game and so will a 7mm RM. What with the premium bullets available today one can make any round overlap what similar rounds will do.

The rifle counts more to me than the cartridge. I like the light Kimber Montanas and when I got the 270 WSM in that rifle there was no alternatives but the WSM"s. Even if they bring out it in 7mm RM I feel that cartridge has been replaced by the new ones. It's still a good round however.

Les Bowman spearheaded the 7mmRM and he had a very good idea. I think it's a better round for most hunting than any belted 300 mag.

I don't think there is that much difference between a 175gr 7mm Rem and a 180 gr .30-06 with the right loads. Put a 160 gr bullet in the .270 WSM and you are right there, too. It all depends on what you want - one rifle to try to do it all (boring!) or a special rig for special purposes.

It seems to be basically one sided for the 7mm Rem Mag

Not really. Think about the conclusions. The logical one is that the cartridge does not matter all that much! It's the rifle that matters most. If you want a heavy gun get a 7mm RM. Heavy guns are easier to shoot once they are in position. If you want a lighter rifle the WSM's are made in that configuration.

As far as I'm concerned they are like twins.
Except the 7mm twin has more versatility because of bullet choices.

Look at it this way...the 7mm twin isn't just good looking.....she can cook, has a better job, and doesn't whine when she comes home......get the picture?? You know which one I would pick.

The reality is they're essentially two peas in a pod. I'd take the 270 WSM myself... today Big Grin

Why not just go for the 7mm WSM? It is the ballistic equal to the 7RM in a nice compact short action.
