MThuntr338 RUM Price Check
There is a stainless Rem 700 chambered in 338 RUM advertised locally for $650. The ad claims it has only been shot a few times. Sight unseen is $650 worth it?
I see the XCR runs for $850-900 new. To me it sounds like a good deal.

MileHighShooterDid it say its the XCR? Or is it another model? If it has anything less then a 26" barrel id pass. 650 ain't bad though, if its an XCR or something. Ammo and components are pricey, but its an extremely powerful, flat shooting round.

AMEN!

I love mine but the first 20 shots or so really had me thinking about eating the scope

Most cannot handle the 338RUM's recoil. I betcha you can get one for $500ish and chances are the original owner shot under 100 rounds.

Wayfaring StrangerDont the RUM's start burning out barrels at 200 shots? If so that'd certainly be a concern when shopping for a used one.

BISCUTMy 300RUM is over 500 rounds now and still shoot little bugger hole 5 shot groups. I am very careful when it comes to heat and expect to get somewhere around 1000-1200 rounds before accuracy drops off. Should still be good enough for hunting but I do expext the groups to open up.
Its the original factory barrel - only difference was the recrown when I had the action squared.

Ed ScarboroI paid $650 several years ago for a 700BDL in 338RUM. It was new in the box. There had been some mix up and the local store owner did not want it so he was going to ship it back.
