I use the exact bullet in my 7mm RUM for whitetails. Out of this cartridge I chronographed them at 3500fps. Of the shoulder shot deer I've taken with them, I've had complete pass through. I only ever found one petal left behind on the far shoulder of a large buck.
So at the slightly lower velocities you're looking at, I do not foresee a problem? The exit wounds were all about the size of a fifty cent piece. Not too terrible. The ranges were between 80 and 120 yards. All the deer dropped in their tracks.

I am going to load them this spring for my 7saum, but they will be the Triple Shock flavor, and around 3150 fps. I would expect them to perform very well, but copper fouling will piss you off. I never use the regular X's anymore, sold em all off

I've killed a couple of elk and a couple of mule deer with that exact combo.

Eat up to the hole, innards turned to soup, and very small exit hole. A little bigger than a pencil, but not much. Shot through a 6x6 elk diagonally right under the spine, about 24 inches of penetration, all tissue / bone. Velocity in my gun was almost the same as the book. HTH, Dutch.
