308 180 grain solid
Looking for a solids for when I come upon the little guys while out hunting larger game. What is out there available? I am only seeing woodleigh hydro and I don't much like the price at $3.50 a piece or so.
Thanks

I was conducting a similar search this past weekend and came up with the same answer.

I called Barnes earlier this week and it was a "no go" on their solids because of the pending classification.

Another option would be the Raptor from Cutting Edge Bullets.

GS Custom also has a couple .308 caliber bullets.

See their link.

Is the Raptor not a hollow point?

Yes, but as stated on their website, you can turn the bullet around and shoot it like a solid.

I had the same problem last year, so I loaded a box of Hornady 150 gr FMJ/BT bullets for the little guys with my .300 Weatherby.

My regular game bullet is the Barnes 168 gr TTSX which I zero 2" high at 100yds. The Hornady FMJs hit 1" low.

I was only able to use this load on a Civet cat, and the FMJ bullet worked great.

There are various military style fmjs in .30 cal. As mentioed GS makes 30 cal solids. North Fork will make you an FPS or CPS in any weight you want to match their SS solid that will shoot to the same POI as the softs the ranges you should take the tinies.

Since your using it on the "little stuff", use milsurp ammo..I use the Lake City 172 gr. solid in my 06 for coyotes, bobcats and it works great. Regular solids are primarily ment for DG such as elephant, Hippo, perhaps buffalo, thus the high price..Also you can buy solid lead bullets and they work well for the small stuff.
