Ruger RSI/308 Findings
Recently posted inquiry about thoughts on subject rifle and since purchased and fired one and can say that the rifle is a real joy to shoot and handle. Accuracy was said not to be the best, but this particular one does 5 shot groups at 100 yards at easy half minute w/ Nikon scope. Admit that I was shooting match prepped ammo and MK's(168's and 175's) and hunting bullets may not perform as well, but will find out soon enough.
Bottom metal is steel on these Rugers, trigger was a pleasant suprise breaking at a crisp 3 lbs.(use NRA Certified Weights for weighing,) inletting is as close and clean as any factory rifle I have encountered lately and overall fit and finish is well done for it's price range. Ordered steel grip cap from Ruger, flame blued it, installed Turnbull CCH rings and bolt shroud and will eventually do the bottom metal and adds a bit of class to a very good little rifle. Is it on the par with a MS 1950's rifle, absolutely not, but it did not cost $3,000.00 and beleive it is a good value if you like full stocked rifles. It is ready to go out of the box and quite smooth even new, so no gunsmithing required to get it to feed or function well. Can't say that about all of the firearms being sold these days.

The 308 is one of my most favorite cartridges.

For hunting bullets try the Sierra 165 HPBT Gameking, 165 Nosler Ballistic Tip, and the 165 Nosler Partition.

They have always shot well for me, in many different 308 rifles. Many times as good as Sierra 168 Match Kings..

Great minds run together!! Your suggestions are the ones I had in mind and yes, those 165GK's do shoot very much like the MK's. Thanks for the input.

I have killed quite a few deer and antelope with the 165gr Gameking, I used that bullet for a long time.

The 165gr Nosler Ballistic Tip and in factory Winchester ammo the 168gr Ballistic Silvertip have done very well too.

And the 165 Nosler Partition as in all Partitions I have used is always a good choice...

But my favorite all round bullet in the 308 is the 165 gr Trophy Bonded Bearclaw, [in the Federal factory load as I have been to lazy to reload 308's].

I still hunt with the 308 quite a bit.

I have owned a couple of the little RSI rifles in .308 and I loved them and they both shot just fine..I can't think of a sweeter rifle for deer size game and even elk...
