Got 2 hogs 2nite with one shot. Lined up on a 3 legged sow, got her and the bigger sow behind her. I could never do that with the factory Hornady SSTs!

Nice work AH. And a double ! Organic meat !
Until a person has killed (and cleaned) ALOT of hogs, the big ones are (were) alluring.
Now, I'm looking for fresh (edible) organic meat ! My goddaughter sent me a picture of a 20-25 lber she turned into an obozo supporter the other day. It had no brains !

The .308 is a mighty good caliber..fI have a Kimber and a Savage 99F in .308..The Savage has accounted for several elk and many deer.

I always recall a read, when Bell was asked later in life what caliber he would choose today for an all around elephant caliber, everyone expected him to say the 7x57, but he said the .308 is the best caliber ever...That's a good reference as I know of.

That's a 16 or 18 ounce cup Smiler

Used the same load on three more pigs; one was a double - took out a 3 legged sow and a bigger sow behind her, had to wait for the right moment and bam!

Just disappointed I didn't see "The Captain" - the latest aoudad we have been chasing. He looks to be pushing 32" with 15-16"bases. that would have been the proper test!

Austin Hunter, tell me about your 308Win and how you are getting such marvelous velocity. I can't seem to get my Browning A-bolt to shoot with any accuracy without keeping the velocity down to just over 2400 ft/sec using 165 grain bullets. killpc

I have a stainless Tika T3, 22 7/16" barrel. I'm using 46.5 gr of Varget at COL of 2.810". Groups are about an 1". Not as good as the Hornady load, but had a similar load in RSA in 2011 (Aframes at 2,560) in the same rifle and my oldest took a Kudu no problem at 250 yards. I might be able to get a better group with Sciroccos, but will lose some velocity due to bullet length.

BTW - when developing my loads, shorter COL and lower grain loads yielded horrible accuracy for me.

46 to 46.5 grs. of Varget will get you up over the 2700 FPS..Thats about max btw..

A .308 should get the same velocity with a 165 gr. bullet as the 30-06 gets with a 180 gr. bullet and that's the real difference in the .308 and the 30-06 and it ain't much..
