I just acquired a rem 700 bdl barreled action in 7mm rem mag at a very good price! I am interested I what you folks would do with it as I cant decide.

Bullington, I'd simply fit it into a good quality Synthetic stock, and use it the way it is.
IMO, no push feed action is a good platform to built a custom rifle, where any money is involved, outside the cost of the same rifle in factory trim. Other than an extractor, and safety conversion, I wouldn't spend very much trying to turn it into anything other than a safe deer hunting rifle! I have an 700 ADL 7mm Rem Mag, and it shoots pritty well, but I use it for what it was designed to be, a knokabout deer rifle, that I don't mind scratching!

You have the basis for a fine ACCURATE custom rifle. The Remington action can be rebarreled to ANY standard magnum cartridge. Just install a quality barrel and synthetic stock, and enjoy...

You have a great action to start a custom project. It depends on how much you wish to spend,....that will determine what possibilities exist for you.

If I were looking for a long range antelope rifle~257 Wby Mag, long range deer rifle~264 Win, 270 Wby, 7mm Rem & Wby. Elk rifle~308 Norma, 300 Win Mag, 338 Win. Big bear rifle~358 Norma or a 416 Taylor.

Drop it into a good laminate or a top quality fiberglass stock. Add a new trigger, and a teflon finish.

To think that a pushfeed is nothing more than a deer rifle is pure BS. Maybe the CRF would be an advantage for ele, buff, and lion, and maybe big bear, but most feeding problems I've seen are in CRF rifles. M700's are awesome

Personally? I would probably build a big magnum off of it. Depends on how much you want to spend and what you want. Think about cost of dies and brass for whatever you decide to build. 308 Norma for instance is about 90 per 100 for the brass. I don't know, I would probably go to my shop, ask the guys what they would like to try, and let them have some fun. :-)

Keep it in 7mm Rem Mag in a really nice stock, or switch to fast twist 6mm Rem AI, or fast-twist 22-6mm Rem AI. Long barrels for the fast twist options.

If it is a good shooter & you want something a bit different, have a good smith rechamber to 7mm Dakota. Drop it in a nice piece of wood, a new Leup. 2 1/2x8 & go shooting!

properly throated and twisted 28 inch bbl to reach the rifiling at 3.575 with 180 gr bullets in the 300 RUM.

If you want to shoot targets get the action blueprinted, install a nice barrel like a Krieger, Shilen, or Pac-Nor. Then mount it on a good fiberglass stock.

I would not have bought it in the first place. There are Remingtons going for $175 now. They do not have an acceptable safety or trigger. Nor do they have any other features that make them worth keeping except perhaps a 40X for formal target shooting. I have owned them and they shot well but now I have better stuff.

But if that were the only rifle that I could afford I would use it and use it well. Just don't spend any big money on it that's all.

The Remington 700 when blueprinted is one of the most accurate rifles you can build without going with a custom action. There are many longrange records held by Remington 700 based rifles. Just take a look at http://www.nc1000ydshooters.com/ match results and see how many people are using Remington rifles for 1000 yard target shooting. The Remington 700 is the best target action to use if you do not want to spend $1000 on a custom action.

I saw a rem 700 last week that was chambered for 10.75 meteor. So I suppose there are countless possibilties.

I would fix the two problem areas in the M700 action (#1 - trigger; and #2 extractor), then get an aftermarket synthetic stock. Bed it and add a scope and you are ready to go hunting for not too much money.
