Ruger45LC300gr + in 35 Whelen
Do any of you fine folks have some good load data for shooting 300gr + bullets in the good ole 35 Whelen? I see DoubleTap ammo offers a 310gr slug at 2300 fps and I'd like to achieve this in my 700 CDL.

stockerYou can try but the 1/16 twist in factory Remington barrels may not stabilize those bullets adequately. 1/12 does and 1/14 usually will in my playing with 4 different rifles with the latter twists.

wrongtargetPaco Kelly has a bit about the obsolete 300gr Barnes RN and a 325gr Hoch in this article.

JABSTry BLC-2 under your 310gr. Woodleigh. I have Whelen with a 1-14" twist and it works great. Start at 53gr and work up from there.

North61I have 75 300 grain Barnes bullets left and my 1-16 twist 350 Rem stabalizes them. They are round nosed so shorter than their weight indicates.
4320 is a good heavy bullet powder

ConUsing a friend's rifle I tried the 310gr Woodleigh infront of AR2208 (you guys call it Varget). The 1:16" looked good until we got to 200m and then we got some suspiciously oval holes.
Cheers...

ppodI have used the Woodleigh 310 bullet to good success. This was in a 35 Whelen-Ackley which has a little more case capacity than a standard 35 Whelen. I got 2300fps with 57 gr H380 (Rem cases). This was a pretty stiff load in my gun but shot well. Another good heavy bullet is the 270 gr Northfork. The NF is a little more accurate in my gun. IMR4064 worked well with the 270's, but I never got around to working up a load with the 310's. The 310 worked well on Buff in Australia, Lots of penetration and broken bones, with over 90% weight retention.

JABSMy Whelen has a 1-14 twist and stabilizes them to 200yds ( I have not put them on paper at a longer range.)
