Advice on RL-33 powder.
I managed to pick up several pounds of Allient RL-33 Powder. I got the powder for my 7mm STW and .338 Lapua. I also shoot .300 Win, .358 STA, .340 Wby, .416 Rigby and Rem. Does anyone out there have any experience with this Powder you are willing to share. Good shooting.

I'm using it out of my Sako M995 .338 Lapua with 250 grain Hornady target bullets. The only load that I've tried is 100.0 grains for about 2825-2850 fps from a 26" barrel. My rifle seems to like this bullet quite well; it also shot nicely using H1000.

What is its burn rate equivalent to in other powders guys?

It looks to be slower than Retumbo and a bit faster than US869 and H50BMG.

In my 7mm Rem Mag I use 79.3gr of RL-33 with 168gr Accubond LR's and I am getting 3,128fps.

79.5gr is max on Quick Load so I am very happy with the velocity I am getting with RL-33.

I should add that 3,128Fps is a 10 shot average and that my gun is a M70 with a 26" Benchmark 5R barrel

Leopardtrack, what is the case fill density for that load? What pressure does QL predict?

Interesting!

The fill for 79.5gr of RL-33 is 106.2% at 63,000psi. Since I am using 79.3gr, I assume that I am a hair below this.

Quick load lists 79.5 as Max Load for my 7mm.

I also tried max loads of RL-25 and Mag Pro which were approx. 150FPS slower than the RL-33 at the same max psi.

Good Luck. I am a new reloader who has received ALLOT of help here and I am very grateful for it so hopefully my response helps you out.

analog ----- I also shoot the Sako 995 in .338 Lapua, thanks for your info. I look forward to trying some loads soon for it and my 7mm STW when the weather permitts. Thanks to you posters, all I had was what Allient put out. Seems like RL-33 might have promise for several chamberings. Good shooting

I've been playing with Retumbo, RL-25 and RL-33 in my 264 Win.

The Western Powders burn rate chart shows Retumbo and '25 to be equal. I find '25 to be approximately 2 grains slower when burning 65 grains. '33 appears to be 2-3 grains slower than '25 in this case capacity.
