Jarrod338 Federal, I have a problem
I have this problem and im not sure what to do about it. Maybe there is some sort of help out there somewhere, some kind of a hotline possibly!
My problem is the last few weeks I thought either a 6.55x55 or a 308 in the CZ550 Fullstock sounded neat. Now these last few days im thinking that a used Ruger 77 or a Sake Bavarian Fullstock in 338 Federal would be a perfect short to Mid-Range gun for everything in North America from Coyotes to Brown Bear. and if person wanted something longer range could pair it with a 338 Win Mag or a 340Wby or both and then you have one diameter for everything. Of course that would be boring.
Next week I may like the 8x57. For me to use the same one of two rifles and cartridges for the rest of my life would be very boring. And if I were to even try it would be a 375 H&H.
Is there any cure for this disease? No doctor or anything has officially diagnosed me but I don't need a doctor to know I have the disease? Would any of you possibly know of an Herbal remedy?

Geedubyano,
not herbal,
more of the nature of blue steel and wood.....
Sako Bavarian Carbine, 308 Winchester
Might not totally cure the symtoms, but will assuage for a time.

If I have another relapse one of those definately looks like it would help temporarily.
All kidding aside I think those are very good looking rifles. How does it shoot?

Jarrod, Part of the fun of being a gun nut is changing desires...we all get it. For a month or 2 I'll be in angst over adding a 404 Jeffery to the safari battery. Then something will click, and I want every Mannlicher-style rifle I can find. Then I read an article or watch a DVD, and then NOTHING matters except double rifles! Don't sweat it...keeps life interesting. :-)

friarmeierOooo, Geedubya, that is purty indeed!
Now, if only it had a peep aperture & no scope it would be the work of the Lord!

Here is a series of groups that I shot at the Pearland Shooters Club, off the bench. Distance 100 yds.
I enjoy load development and testing, but it is all done with the idea of killing deer and hogs at a maximum range of 200 yds.
One inch groups out of a hunting rifle work for me.

BISCUTNo cure known. I'm hit by it as well. Last few years started a battery of Stiller actioned Hart barrleed rifles....25-06, 6.8SPC, 270W, 308W, 30-06, 338WM, 35Wheelen AI.
My disease just got worse....Got a Luxus single shot coming in 06with 270W & 300WM barrels.
Got it bad. No hope.

What you are describing does sound like a pretty serious case.
On top of all that I have what I call SDD (shooting deficit disorder). Going to the range weekly helps, but getting out and killin' something assuages the symptoms much better.

It should definately take care of any deer or hog that ever walked at 200 yards. If you ever need anyone to babysit it just let me know

tjrobertsNice bunch of rifles there.
But the one minor argument. I must throw in is , that I must disagree with the notion that the .338 federal is a brown bear round.
It might do but if someone said they would pay for me to hunt brownie but i must use a 338 federal. i think i would pass !

scottfromdallasI wouldn't use the 338 Fed on anything I wouldn't use a 30-06 for. Neither would it be my first choice for a brown bear hunt. I'd want more thump. For me, the conversation would start with the 338-06, 35 Whelen, 350 Rem Mag or 9.3x62 with 250 grain bullets.
Of course I have no actual experience. I'd just feel a lot more comfortable with a little extra thump.

Jarrodtjroberts and scott I agree that it would not be my first choice for a brown bear but if its all I had I would use one.
I would probably prefer a 375 H&H more thump and its my favorite cartridge. Although ive only shot one and never owned one. Thats a problem I plan to cure
