jcmckinney1270 wsm reloading
I have a question for everyone with a 270 WSM.
What is the correct bullet to land spacing? Currently 2.840 COL with 2.860 COL measured with Hornady COL guage.
Any other powder measures would be appreciated.
Equipment:
Winchester M70 .270 WSM Coyote
24" barrel
140 gr. AccuBond
Remington brass
Federal 215 primers
Still working on powder type and load
3 shot groups @ 100 yds
H4831sc 58gr. @ .523
IMR 7828 64gr. @.567

308SakoHave done a very little with a friends rifle and found 66 grains of IMR 7828 not SSC 7828 gave 3250 ft/secs and 1/2 MOA at 300 yards. F215M and Win Supreme brass, same overall length as yours.

IMO, if you are getting those kids of groups, you have found the proper seating depth.

Mighty PeaceI have 2 Tikka T3 LS 270WSM rifles. Reloads are with 140gr Accubonds and Retumbo.
71.0gr Compressed load just over 3300ft/s and the other rifle preferred 69.0gr. Both shoot under 0.4" groups. Using Winchester brass and Federal 215 primers.
Cant remember right now COL, but the tips of the bullets just fit inside the clips.
Very impressed with this caliber and bullet on big game.
Other powders I have were 7828SSC, WS780 and H1000 but I love the Retumbo...never tried any others.

phurley5I shoot a couple of .270 WSM's, both Model 70 Winchesters. A New Haven Ultimete Shadow in Stainless and the new Featherweight Deluxe from South Carolina. The both are very accurate and sport Ziess Conquest 4.5 X 14 scopes. My rifles like 130 grain Nosler Solidbase with either RL-22 or Magpro (last load with the Magpro and Fed 210M primer was 3462 fps and nearly a one holer). For the larger bullets they like RL-25 with a Barnes 140 grain TSX 3270 fps, and Magpro for 150 grain Nosler Partition 3175 fps and very accurate. I didn't get excited about the WSM's until the .270 came out, now I am an amazed fan. Good shooting.

boatammoMine really likes:
130 NPT
62 gr. IMR 4350
WW case
Fed 215
COL will vary rifle to rifle.

thndrchikenIt depends, it will be different for every bullet determined by the design and body taper as to when the bullet touches the lands. For my varmint rigs I definitely try to do as much as possible to decrease group size. For a hunting rig I tend to load to SAAMI spec for COL, unless I can't get a good load then I'll play with seating depth. You often only get one shot to get everything right when the shot presents itself.
