Austin HunterGood shooting by my 12 year old -Fixed Pic
A five shot 100 yard group shot from her Weatherby Vanguard 7mm-08 with a Timney Trigger, 20" barrel. Hand loaded 120 gr Sierra Pro-Hunters with 41 gr Varget at 2.780 COL.
4th shot was a flier and she called it. Yellow circle is first 2 shots.
She shot off my backpack.
I had previously shot it when doing load testing, so readjusted the scope for her POI.

eagle27That's a nice group. Mild load so should be easy shooting for your 12 year old.
My 7-08 load with same Sierra bullet and powder but 45.0grs of it spits out the 120 grainers at a very consistent 3025fps in the 22" barreled Marlin XS7 and will group around 5/8" so there is room to up the ante with your load if need be.

B L O'ConnorI hope she's very proud. She deserves to be . . . as does her dad.

Austin HunterThanks. Load is running 2,640 fps. Perfect for deer sized game at 200 yards and less. I have some full power 150 gr Gameking and Scirocco loads that I need to test.
She asked when she would need a more powerful rifle, I said with the 150 gr loads it will cover just about everything you she could ever want to shoot except for the big bears. Just keep the ranges reasonable. If she ever does get a bigger round in her adult life, I'd keep with a non-magnum like the 30-06, 338-06, or 35 Whelen.
