I've been studing these thing for the last few nights and it just appeals to me. So tell me about the .284win. Why did you choose it over a .280rem or a .270win.?

I had looked into all three at one time or another, and concluded that they were all attempts to duplicate the performance of the old 7x64. So I went with the original.

I first became a big fan of the .284 Win. in '68 when I was a teen and I still consider it to be my all time favorite deer cartridge and continue to use it almost exclusivley today for this purpose. I think it's the hottest short action cartridge around and it came in the Savage 99 and Winchester 88 which are the type of rifles I have always been into, short and light lever actions. The .270 and .280 are long action rounds and thus not available in the guns I was interested in.

planning on building one later this year have a 1917 sporter just ankering for a new face lift.that is if it won't have a feeding problem with the short case and long action.if so will pick up a short action rifle.everything i've read about this cartridge says it's a shooter.

I wanted all the 7mm performance I could get in a Rem 600 action. At the time, that was the 284 Win. Built myself a very light mountain rifle for goat chasing. I get 2900-3000 fps with 150 gr bullets (including factory ammo, chronographed), so I accomplished all I set out to do. I may build another in 7mm WSM later when I have time. - Dan

I just like "different" cartridges. I already own a 7x57 and a 7 Rem. mag so I had a Weatherby Ultra light rechambered from 7-08 to 284 Win. It shoots the 150 Sierra's well and I shot one deer with it so far.
