steve4102Browning ShortTrac??
Now that Ruger has left a big hole in my gun cabinet were a very accurate, nice little semi-auto Mini-30 once stood. I feel like I must fill that hole with another semi-auto rifle. I am thinking about the Browning ShortTrac in 308. Anyone have any experience with this rifle, accuracy and reliability?

Fish30114Steve4102, I've had one for a little over a year now. I wanted to shoot the 168 gr factory Winchester ammo in her, but she only did about 1 3/4" with that ammo, which is OK, but I'm a little more picky than that, plus I have a .270 Win in a BAR stalker, and it will do 7/8 - 1" all day with 130 grain Win supreme factory ammo. I've got some 150 grain stuff to try, hopefully that will bring the groups down a bit, but if not then I'll try and work up a load with the 168's, I just like to shoot factory ammo in my auto's--no real reason why, just do....
This gun has had maybe 150 rounds through her, and has always cycled flawlessly, which has been my experience with the 2 other BAR's I've had (still have the one). I used Talley mounts on her, and she really looks clean. I intend for it to be my walking around/truck gun, quick with the follow up shots is the theory, the .270 gets that duty now.
I know it's all just opinion, but I like the looks of the short-trac. It is a little shorter length of pull than the longer actions, 13.5" I think, which fits me well.
Good Shooting--Don

cnm123I have a 300wsm shortrac and love it. It functions perfectly and is a consistent sub moa performer. I have used it in some really cold conditions and not a hicup.
It is my deer/pig woods gun it points and feel like a shotgun which i like. The only downside is a mushy trigger which i just got used too.

krakyI don't have the short trac but have the previous bar and a blr in 308. Both guns with the right ammo shoot moa. I love them.....compact...handy....accurate and fast follow ups. Both seem to have a preference for 150 grainers. One loves the hornady spitzer. The other loves just about any 150 grainer.

squeezeI too can't speak to the ShortTrac, but I have
a BAR Stalker, in .308 Win, that is from the
first year of the ShortTrac production.
I thought I wanted a ShortTrac, but they
were not available, at the time I wanted to
purchase, so I opted for the BAR Stalker.
I DO NOT regret that move. I love this
rifle! It too is a sub MOA shooter, with my
handloads, but the nice thing is it was the
first load I tried. I also load 130 gr.
Barnes TSX loads, in .308 Win, for a Savage
Striker(Bolt action pistol), and on kind of
a whim, I tried a couple of groups, of this
ammo, in the BAR. The Striker was shooting
.5 MOA, with this ammo, and so did the BAR!
Mine is set up as a "brush" rifle, for
whitetails, with a Bushnell 3200 Elite 2x7,
on lookunder mounts, so I can use the open
sights on running deer, and for long pokes,
I use the scope. I have found my PERFECT
brush country deer rifle.
