well, what do you intend to hunt?
i'm shooting 200gr partitions out of my .300Wby(its my do it all big game rifle), i guess that sums up my opinion.

i have read on Bergers site that the VLD is supposed to penetrate 2" and then open agressivly.

if you hit heavy bones when you're out hunting moose, elk etc. i wouldnt trust the VLD to do the job.

they are more of a long range bullet, that being said ive smashed some pretty big bones with A-maxs, and most people wouldnt even consider using A-maxs for hunting!

I never shot the 185s but I can tell you first hand the 175VLDs are great on deer and elk.

My 30-06 really likes that bullet, but I haven't used it for hunting anything larger than a coyote.

I have a couple of buddies who ran 168 VLDs out of their .300 RUMs last year. They killed 5-6 deer altogher and expansion was dramatic, but all had exits. I don't think any moved after the shot. I think it's a fine deer bullet, but not sure on larger game.

I am using VLDs on deer from the 308 and 7mm WSM and more rounds this year. All have had excellent results.

Get the 'power' or optic that your eye likes instead of what someone else says.

When we go to the doctor they ask us what lens we like!

Do that with your optics.

I'm using the new 140grn VLD in one of my 7RMs this year. They did great on paper and did well on my antelope this year. The MV was around 3175, shot around 150, slight quarter, took out vitals, the bottom of the spine, and still exited. Hope to try them on some whitetails before long.

The Bergers have been getting pretty good on game reports from what I've seen. Best of the West sure believes in them.

Good Luck
