Nosler Ammunition
Hi, my reloading stuff is buried (both my sons moved back in) so I was thinking of buying some Nosler 150g LR Accubond Ammunition for my 270 Weatherby. Anyone tried their ammunition yet?

Regards,

Chuck

Yes I have used it in a couple calibers, it's as good as any other brand out there. It's not loaded particularly hot compared a few of the other "boutique" brands. Anything specific you want to know about it?

I used their 165 grain Accubond ammo in a .30-06, if I had found a suitable animal to point my rifle at it would have done the job. My daughter has been using it in her .308 Win loaded with 125 NBT right at 3000 fps to kill four deer last season with no issues. It seems to be right around MOA maybe a little less for three rounds out of the two rifles I've tried it in at 100 yds.

Chuck,

You need to be aware the LR version is very frangible. Don't hit any big bones at close range.

I really like Nosler ammo. I have only bought their Nosler Custom ammo in 35 Whelen (250 gr.NP) & 338-06 (250 gr.NP & 210 gr.NP). It is really accurate stuff in my rifles anyway: a Ruger Hawkeye and a Dakota Classic. tu2

I should mention that I've mostly used it in my Rem 673 in .350 Rem mag. I lucked into a pretty good deal on them so I bought several boxes loaded with 225gr Partitions. It proved to be very accurate so I didn't bother reloading for that rifle for quite a while.

I've shot four black bears with it, the largest over seven feet and none under six feet. In all cases it's been one shot and done. So I'll keep using the stuff until I eventually run out. Needless to say I'm pretty happy with it.

Thanks Mark, that's one of the things I didn't know but would be concerned about. I guessl I'll dig out my reloading bench and load some 150g Partitions which I have a lot of.

Good to hear from you Mark,

Chuck

Ive shot a fair bit of it in 7 STW and 28 Nosler. The STW because I got a bunch with 160 Accubonds for cheap; and the 28 because I needed brass and it was cheaper to buy loaded ammo than empty brass. Or at least with the 168 CC it was. In the end if the barrel likes the bullet it’ll work fine.

My concern would be more with the bullet. I haven’t had much lack getting that 150 to shoot in anything, and it wasn't for lack of trying. 270 Weatherbys can be picky about bullets on a good day.

I consider the LR Acubond to be a "target" bullet.

The LR is fragile so that it will expand at LR, as it should be, but being fragile would more likely kill very well on deer size game and totally destructive so I have not used the LR...

That said I have used the standard Accubond bullets in handloads mostly in the 338 win, and 30-06, on a lot of deer, half a dozen elk and lots of African plainsgame up to and including Eland, and I have found it to be the full equal of the partitions and that's no light praise..Its a great bullet in the game fields..

Same for the 7x57 but to a lesser degree with the 140 Accubond on 60 lb. whitetail doe culling and a couple of cow elk with the 160 gr Accubonds...
