I put a really nice Mauser 66s in the classifieds with 3 barrels for $1000 less than a syn M03 without scope mounts..

If I wanted one and had a rifle chambered in 30-06 I would send it off to JES and have it rebored and rechambered for 9.3-62.

If not a Blaser ( I'm happy with my R8 ) I would choice a Sako Grizzly.

I'm thinking about both rebarreling a commercial FN and/or rechambering a husky 146 from 9.3x57.

Knowing my luck as soon as I do it I'll come across an old Mauser ready to go.

There is a guy on gunbroker with a Huskys and a FN in 9.3x62. And another Husky is a 9.3x57,

I thought about buying all three and picking the one that shot the best and keeping it.

But, I have horrible luck with other peoples projects.

A Husky 9.3 for under $600 is a pretty good boomer for not much cash. I wonder how they are.

I have a Husky I use, once to RSA and to Tx several times for hogs. I also have a CZ550 I picked up at a gun show with dies and brass for $350. The dealer said I was the only one to not put it down after reading the caliber. I have never fired the CZ, I alway go for the beat up Husky.

The 9.3 x62 on plains game worked just like the stories and lore.

Same here. I have a cz550 and it sits in the safe. I always grab a Husqvarna or old Mauser. They just feel nicer.

I bought a LH Tikka T3 Hunter in 9.3 x 62 and have done (or in the process of doing) the following:

1. New walnut stock by Mountain Tactical (needed longer LOP);
2. Ken Rucker Bump Buster hydraulic recoil reducer (also allows adjustable LOP);
3. Mountain Tactical picatinny rail;
4. Tikka battue fiber optic front ramp sight;
5. NECG rear sight;
6. Bobro QD scope mount; and
7. Leupold VXR 3-9x40 IR scope.

Mine's a 1909 Peruvian I rebarreled.
Open sights, barrel-band swivel.
Kept the beautiful Peruvian Crest and the charger hump intact.

If I get my picture posting act together, I'll post here, along with thanks to Mike, dpcd, Duane W, Kobe and so many other talented folks here who really inspired me.

Big Wonderful Wyoming....I do have experience with three 9.3x62's...my first was a FS CZ550...I owned it before I did any handloading. I came up with velocities that were a little low...all factory...I sold it...the CZ550's are the 1 ton pick-up trucks of the 9.3's....not a good move...I now own a Sako AV and a Tikka in 9.3....truth be told they shoot about the same....Any 9.3 is worth the time to experiment with....just 1 mans opinion....regards....bearit....

I originally was looking for a Ruger African in 9.3x62 but settled for a CZ 550 American with Kevlar Stock. The CZ is probably not as refined as other rifles and may be a bit on the heavy side but, I've grown to really like it. The more rounds I put through it the smoother it gets. Some don't care for the trigger, but I think the single set trigger works well for hunting purposes. I reload have found the perfect bullet and powder combination (286 grain NP's over a stiff charge of RamShot Big Game. The weight of the rifle actually makes it a pleasure to shoot. It may go elk hunting in CO again this year but, I haven't decided.

Check out the Sako Model 85 Arctos. I have one on my bucket list.

Sauer 404

9.3x62 is the best hunting caliber for medium game invented in the last 100 years. Europeans knew it, But we didn't know it until recently, and now, rifles, ammo, and components are readily available.
I have a Ruger and two Mauser 98s. Great caliber, but I have little use for bores below .33 anyway.

i had for years an heym sr20 in lh that i used with sucess with red deer and wild boar i know smaller calibers work too but i always like the caliber and all the history behind.

now i have a zastava m70 in that wonderful caliber among some other calibers ....

i voted for the ruger but i cant get one directly as im left handed ...

enjoy the selection and the fun to shoot the 9.3x62.

The 9.3x62 is a great calibre. For light and inexpensive there is the Tikka. But I'm not interested as long as we have inexpensive control-feed, 375Rugers available. The 375 Ruger has wider bullet selection, more versatility at the high-power end, a tiny bit more diameter, and can be loaded down to 30-06 levels with the faster powders.

If you have a 9.3, enjoy it. Surely.
If someone is buying a rifle to cover the niche of "hunting large game", then the 375Ruger is the cost-efficient entry level.

I had never heard of the 9.3x62 until I went to Namibia on a lion hunt and used Jamy Traut's 9.3. The make was unclear, but it is a good caliber. I shot a lion, 5 gemsbok and a bunch of other stuff with it. Good caliber and does not kick too much.

Would like to build one on a Norvegian Mauser Action, rebarrelling only and mantaining the wood and anything else.....

I have a awesome Mauser 98 that I restored a few years ago. Took a lot of work and time to get the bugs out but the finished product turned out awesome..It has a half octagon, half round, full rib barrel, comm. Mauser trigger, scope friendly safety, original barrel swivel and front sight is part of the rib, got a really nice blue job, Stock is an awesome piece of dark blood red walnut with full black fiddle back. I had to glass bed and shore up the stock considerably and install cross bolts and extra barrel recoil lug. had to patch up and match several small cracks at the tang and behind the bottom metal..installed Talley bases and detachable peep. the bore is mint and it shoots great..Love it but like most of my favorites it will go down the road one of these days, and I'll hunt with junk!! Maybe I missed it, why not just buy a 9,3 barrel for your S202? Use same bolt just swap out the barrel.

Or if you are looking for an excuse to buy a new one, then S404 or M98 would be the ticket.

I'd like to throw another vote in for a tikka. I acquired a tikka forest in 9.3x62. Relatively inexpensive and light. Shoots a 3 shot cloverleaf at 100yds (if I do my part). Just a great gun that is a blast to shoot. Taking it moose hunting this year. It has quickly become one of my favorite guns and calibers.

I own a 9.3x62 barrel for my 202.

I am not really much of a switch barrel guy. If I can find another 202 receiver for a good price I might turn that into a 9.3 using my barrel, but it would have to be cheaper than I can buy another rifle for.

I have a Tikka T3 coming in this fall in 8x57, and a couple of 308 and 7mm Rem mag NIB tikkas that are just sitting in the safe waiting to figure out what they want to be when they grow up.

I'd take a Sako Black Bear.

Last summer NPS345 and I got lucky on ours. DPCD had two military step medium sporter 9,3mm barrels for sale here at a very good price.

He agreed to barrel our actions and chamber them in 9,3x62, also at a very good price.

I have my barreled action (M98 1908 Brazilian Deutsche Waffen-Und Munitionsfabriken, Berlin) ready to be stocked, just waiting on member Chris to get my blank to the pantograph machine.

It will be right at nine pounds finished up with the B&L Elite 3000 series 3-9X acope I have for it.

The 9,3x62 built on a nice 98 Mauser; no home should be without one...

Nakihunters rifle is a rare find for sure and well worth the asking price..I don't know what it would cost delivered to the USA or what's involved these days but getting one here has always been somewhat problematic..I have done it many times but all prior to the present administration that could screw up an anvil with a q-tip...

Have a good 98 donor, but would likely go with a "classic" M70 for a built from scratch 9.3 x 62. My last 9.3 x 62 I decided to go with a turn key box stock rifle. I opted M85 for a workhorse rifle, and to date, the rifle has run without fail. Only angst has been trivial stuff with the scope, not a big fan of an S&B on a light and trim rifle. Otherwise, a rifle is like boots and backpacks, a 9.3 x 62 should be built around an action that you prefer, not what someone else may prefer.

If I get enough interest, I will make more barrels, contoured to the 1930 Oberndorf sporter contour; the ones Idaho is talking about. I use Douglas blanks; 12 inch twist. Yes, most any 98 Mauser is the way to go for the 9.3.

dpcd: If I remember right, they are 24" and .600 at the muzzle? Is that correct? Or am I thinking of something else?

I can't remember either; I will get you dimensions later; I think the muzzles are .630. 24 inch. I can turn them to fit a rear sight band, or leave metal on so the sight can be soldered on and look like a band is there. Here it is;

I was lucky enough to grab one of the Ruger 77 Africans when they were getting blown out at Bud's. What an awesome rifle/cartridge combo. I'm sold on the 9.3x62mm, and plan to take it to South Africa next year for plains game.

For the money, there probably isn't a finer production 9.3x62 made.

9,3x62 is a wonderful chambering ... great for piggies, deer, bear, and African game.

Anybody have any opinions on how this barrel might look on other than a Mauser action? Say for example on a M70 or Montana 1999? Sacrilegious?
