Curious as to what sort of speeds anyone with a .340 Weatherby might be getting out of their rifles ?

SD, maybe Mark Dobrenski will chime-in here as the 340 is about his favorite.
I've never loaded for one, but have another friend for whom I chrono'd factory rounds. His rifle is a custom HS Precision with a 26" bbl. The Wby 250 gr. factory stuff goes just over 3,000 fps in his rifle. Wby DOES load their ammo hot.

<338 Ultra>
Guy, Your response on your loads are/were safe for hunting. Don't you still hunt with these rifles? I think I would consider a 338 Ultra Mag. It would be less work than forming the 375 brass. Just my opinion. Why the 24 inch barrel on the first rifle?

338 Ultra - I do own a 338 Ultra in a Sendero and it easily outperforms the 340 Wby's that I have owned. The Remington 700 that I listed was built over twenty years ago by Dan Dowling. It was a shooter and one day I was stupid and let someone talk me out of it. I regretted that decision for a long time. So I bought the Winchester Mod 70 a few years latter. It was a 338 Win and I had Dan re-chamber that rifle to 340 Wby, hence the 24" barrel. Re-chambering was going to be a temporary fix - that was fifteen years ago! The rifle is light and handles very well and it has become my favorite hunting rifle.
As for using 375 brass, when I had the first 340 built the Weatherby/Norma brass was so soft that it would show pressure signs even with moderate loads. The fix then, was to use the harder W/W brass and that allowed the shooter to obtain the maximum velocities the 340 was capable of. The newer Weatherby/Norma brass is much better now but it is still softer than the W/W.

By the way, welcome to the board.
