Sorry to bring this up but most people vote with their wallet and according to ammo and reloading die sales each year, some of you guys are waay out in left field!

GrenadierWhat currently available FACTORY cartridge(s) do you:
1) Like the least?
The ones that are out of stock when I need them. 2) Have the least use for?
The ones for which I have no rifles to shoot.23 July 2012, 19:56

1) Weatherby cartridges, WSM, WSSM, UM, SAUM, RCM, etc.
2) Anything 30 cal, especially the 308 Win; however, I do like the 300 H&H for its romantic value.

Left field is not a bad place to be, because it's much less crowded. Don't knock it until you try it.

PoppaWI dislike the 243 for the image it has as a girls gun. Guys wont use one for deer cuz its too small and then hobble their wifes and kids with one. I know it would work but like a little more bullet.
I used to dislike the '06 also but have recently come to my senses. I still dont own one though.
I also have a hate on for wsm's and people that call Weatherby's new copycats when they are older than most.

Donald NelsonI have to say 7mm Rem mag for both answers.
Mainly for same reasons said here. It is the rookie shooters long range cannon. It gives more novice shooter / hunters a false sense of ability than I think any other cartridge does.
My second choice for both answers would be the 25-06. Just no need for it in my safe.

MileHighShooter7mm Rem Mag and the 270....anytime I see them on used racks I just think "hmm...what could I re=barrel that to?". I'd rather have a 25-06 and a 300 Win mag, comparing apples to apples, or a 30-06 and 300 Wby (which I do have).
If we are including pistols, the 38 Special. It does nothing for me, and is always a let down when I see a nice used wheel gun then see its a 38...I'd rather have a 357 with the option of shooting 38's, but can't go the other way so why bother?
Never warmed up to the 7-08 either
If you think every possible niche has been filled already, thank a wildcatter!

dwheels1. 223 SSM The ultra short magnums are? so messed up. They even look weird really weird.
2. Any of the huge old blackpowder elephant cartridges. I'll never have any real use for a 500 Nitro Express except maybe as an investment in a fine old handmade rifle.

MOA TACTICALI hate the 270 doesn't matter if it is Jack's, Roy's or that POS WSM. And I hate all the other WSM, RSAUM, WSSM and so on.
I don't have any use for the 7mm-08. Has no class, no power, and I am not it's demographic.

I love killing 270s. I don't share your hatred for the 7mm Magnums, but can see your point.

MOA TACTICALI have even thought about killing one of the Winchester 270 Jack O'Connor tribute rifles and turning it into a 338-06.
Because Elmer would have liked it that way.

I like the way you think ......

Personally
1) All the bigger Weatherbies - 416, 378, 460.
2) 243 - not because it's a bad calibre - it's actually pretty good, but because it gets misused (in ZA). It's marginal at best on larger game like kudu, but experienced shooters use it and it works for them, because they take their time and put the bullet in the correct spot. Then someone will come along and want to introduce his son or daughter to hunting and look for something that won't kick them mindless and settle on a 243, knowing it can do anything, but the kid isn't an expert and the shot is off and you have a wounded animal and disenchanted hunter.
In short - it's fine for experts, not so good for beginners, but beginners seem to use it disproportionately.
