<Sika>Marlin 336 question
I have a Marlin 336 SC, which is not listed on their web site, it's a .35 with a shorter magazine than shown on their site. They have SS, C, Y etc. listed, but not the SC. Anyone know the reason for this?

jsrIts been recalled because, due to the shorter magazine, presents a very dangerous situation upon firing,to the shooter and bystanders.I'll email you the address to return it to.Disregard the fact that its an Oregon address with my name on it.

Sorry, did you try the 336 board at Marlin Talk? Somebody there might know. Also Marlin does make some limited versions for various distributers, and doesn't list them on their site.

<Sika>Thanks jsr, grandpop left it to me, taking to the range for the first time this weekend, so I popped onto the Marlin page out of curiosity. Evidently a limited version of some kind. I'll try the 336 board, never been there.

ecalpon.azHi Sika, since I fit into the grandpop range myself, I am familiar with this particular rifle. My father purchased a Marlin 336 SC in 1950. The rifle had a short magazine and a somewhat thicker forearm and buttstock, as compared to the newer 336's. The top of the receiver (where newer ones are drilled and taped for a scope) was not smooth but featured a cross goove type of metal engraving. It also had semi-buckhorn sights and a hooded front sight. He told me the SC stood for "Sportsman Carbine". I believe I saw a Marlin add in a shooting magazine from the fifties where it was described as the "Sporting Carbine". It was (and is) a great rifle and my father harvested a lot of deer with it over the years until he found out it was "just a brush gun" and moved up to a larger caliber. Hope this help. RW

TANSTAAFLSika,
The SC stands for Sporting Carbine. They are the same as the RC or Regular Cabine except for the 2/3 magazine tube and forend cap instead of a barrel band. I don't remember there being anything more dangerous about this rifle than any other Marlin, but you can always check at Marlin Talk.
BTW the 336A (rifle) had a 24" barrel and a 2/3 magazine.
Hope this helps,
Bob
