I bought a m77 300 win mag left hand when they were still being produced a few years back. I bought it more as a project gun. Gave it to my gunsmith to sight in and see if it was accurate enough to hold on too and he said it was. Used a cheap Nikon prostaff I had lying around for the scope.

Took it hunting without ever shooting it and managed to drop it from a high stand. The latch broke and the unloaded gun fell over 25 feet. The stock broke in half. I think I posted some pictures on ar.

I left the broken gun with my gunsmith. It was a popular attraction in his shop with a lot of people asking what happen. Over the same time I moved to the Blaser platform. Last year decided to finally order a McMillan stock.

Got a call that the gun was ready. Went and picked it up and it looked exceptional. Spoke to the gunsmith about swapping scopes when my Blaser k95 30/06 barrel gets in and I took the gun home mainly cause I really liked the end product.

I stopped at the range after the gunsmith and sighted in my Blaser 8mm Mauser barrel - .48 moa. I did not have any 300 win mag but managed to located some rounds from a fellow member. The gun was too tempting not to shoot.

With the borrowed ammo I decided to shoot a gun that was thrown 25 feet, broken stock, replaced with a new stock and same scope that had survived the drop. The gun shot 1 moa with 2 round touching. That to me is pretty damn impressive. Not Blaser like accuracy but good enough for any hunting I do.

Now I need to get a good scope and some good ammo.

I plan to also put the same McMillan stock on my 30/06 ruger.

I'd be tempted to leave the present scope on. It's more than earned its place after the abuse it's had!

I may worry that it is hanging on by a thread and could fail any moment...

That illustrates exactly why my hunting rifles are Rugers.

If your gun shot MOA I wouldn’t be worried about the scope either.

In the name of science, you should throw your Blaser out of a tree and compare results to the Ruger.

The Blaser will do better. The factory stock on the Blaser is bullet proof. But it is a $7-$10k rifle and I don’t need to throw one around to know it is the best rifle in the world. Ruger with a McMillan is a close second

For most people probably not.

But blaser is specific to my choice in rifles.

I like platform guns - blaser rifles, sig p320 ect.

I like being able to swap barrels scopes ect. There are guys like Saeed who like being able to build their own rifles. Something I have no skill or interest in.

I also like semi custom guns on factory actions like this ruger or my cz but little interest in a full blown custom rifle.

Double rifles do little for me and I own a $15k double that I have not shot in 5 years.

If we were all purely utilitarian - we could all have a ruger American in 30/06 and call it quits. The ruger American is a damn good rifle for the money.

My R93 fell 20ft out of a tree with my .375 H&H barrel and 2.5-10x56 Zenith back in 2017. Rifle undamaged though the scope slid 1/8th inch in the mounts - fell straight onto the butt pad as far as I could tell.
Still shoots, no repairs necessary other than repositioning the scope and retightening the rings. The Zenith is now zeroed for my 8x57IS R93 barrel which has shot a number of one hole groups wearing that scope.

I do know of an investment cast Ruger receiver that cracked with no fall from any height- ain’t science wonderful
