My Blaser R93 .270

kiwiwildcatMy Blaser R93 .270
Hey guys,
Michael from New Zealand here. Just thought I would post this picture of the amazing accuracy that Blasers are capable of! This is a 3 shot group at 100 yards.
I've had my Blaser now for 6 months, purchased it at trade price. Since then, Blasers have gone up in price here by 25 - 30% so i consider myself fortunate to have purchased it when i did.
Mine is the R93 Professional, just one barrel at this stage (.270 Winchester). The .270 is considered one of the best cartridges for anything here in New Zealand so i don't see myself buying another barrel. I already own a very nice Kimber Pro varmint in .204 which is great for varmints and smaller deer we have here in NZ.
So this group was shot using the GS Custom 110gr HV's and 63 grs W760. Out of the 22.5 inch barrel of my Blaser, I get an astounding 3450fps with no pressure signs. Sighted 2.93 inches high at 100yards, it drops around 7.5 inches at 400 yards.
Check out the GS Custom site, these bullets are revolutionary! There are guys shooting 200kg Red Deer with 40gr .223 projectiles in the heart/lung area and these animals drop on the spot.

Best regards,
Michael.

Dr. LouI hate to burst your bubble, but one of those butt ugly Savages can shoot just as well. If you want a nice looking 270 that can shoot that well, get a Sauer.

Seriously though, nice groups. Lou

kiwiwildcatYep, Savages are accurate, but I like the Blaser for a whole lot of other reasons not only for their accuracy.
Cheers,
Michael.

londonhunterHi Kikiwildcat well done
Just a small comment your group is actually better than that. You should really measure centre to centre rather than edge to edge for group. I think you are around 0.3 inch
Dr Lou let him enjoy his new rifle sauer blaser what the heck the man is enjoying himself. Why pour cold water over it..........
Was it a standard barrel ?
Nice group Kiwi! As you likely aware, Ben is right when he states:

One way of establishing your group size is to measure edge to edge (as you are trying to do) and then subtract one bullet diameter. You are a bit optimistic in your edge-edge measurement, though. The right (greyish) border of the bullet hole has been left out in the .392" measurement shown in the picture. Let's assume a more correct measurement gives you an edge-edge measurement of about .47" (I'm dreaming that number up...). That will give you a group size (center-center) of .2" - or smaller... Nice shooting indeed!
While we are nit-picking. To compare Blaser (R93) barrel lengths with barrels from conventional rifles, you need to remember that barrels of conventional rifles are normally measured from the start of the chamber (or barrel face) to the muzzle. The 22.7" (57.7 cm) total length of the Blaser barrel actually includes the length of the locking mechanism - about .8" (or 2cm), for a chamber-muzzle length of about 21.9". Which makes your 3450 fps observed muzzle velocity all the more amazing.

Cliff LyleMichael,
I also have a Blaser R93 and love it. You are correct in that the accuracy of a standard Blaser barrel is incredible.
I also have the K95 with a collection of 3 barrels. Well done on your shooting. Keep us posted on these new bullets and what successes you have with them.
Cheers!

Londonhunter, you're right. I shouldn't rain on the parade of a new Blaser owner. It will be their favorite rifle until they get something else. Wait...I have the same affliction. All my rifles are my favorite, especially the newest one.

That is GREAT SHOOTING. Not only is it a great group, it is perfectly zeroed.
[Both are NORMAL for a qualified, Blaser R 93, but non believers should be impressed].
Well Done.

Those GS Custom bullets are extremely accurate in my experience. I have not tried my 30 cal HV's (yet) in my R93. Something else to try! Good shooting.

Peter are you ready for your trip to Africa with your Blaser?
Yup! But it will not be going alone. Got a couple of doubles to take as well! Not to mention my CZ in 416 Rigby.

Micheal, I've sent you a personal message. However since doing so I have found an handout by Custom Bullets which states the NZ agent is named Martin.
