L-W does not stock the .35 Whelen in the "Article 7xx" series of barrels for the M98 Mauser.

The article 7xx series are long-chambered barrels, requiring only a lathe, gauges and gunsmithing skills for installation.

Woody says if we order ten identical 35 Whelen barrels we can get them for about $135 each plus shipping and handling. The twist is 1:12.

I'd like to see an Article #720 in 35 Whelen. This is 23.6 inches long tapering to .65 at the muzzle. See http://www.lothar-walther.com/us/abarrels.htm for a sketch.

Is there any interest in trying to coordinate a group buy on these barrels?

for right about 200, pacnor will do the same for you, one off. If they would throw in a 338x06 for a p17, i would be with you.

As near as I can tell the same barrel from Pac-Nor is $175+$75 or $245. This gets you the "pre-fit" barrel which I believe is essentially what we're talking about with the Art 720 from L-W.

The semi-custom 35 Whelen we are discussing is about $230 for a one-off from L-W, so we are comparing apples to apples.

I thought there might be a lot of interest in the group buy on a 35 Whelen, guess I was wrong.

I honestly don't know which is the better buy. Both companies have very good reputations. If I have to get a single barrel (looks likely), then I'll probably go with Pac-Nor and get a fast-twist (1:10) barrel, so I can use long and heavy bullets.

I live in Cincinnati, now, so it's a long way to Houston. I do have a brother in Alvin that I need to visit...

I am too surprised that there's not several replies on this one.
I used both 1-10, 1-12, 1-14 in 358... ithink savage used a 1-14, anyway.
I got better groups with heavier bullets from the 1-10 on a springfield. It was a special order, but heck. Then i got a 99-358, and it shoots okay.. under 1.5, with 225 at 2500. The 1-12, in a mexican mauser. It's a 1.25, real, moa. It can shoot submoa, but that's not the norm. Basically, the 1-10 shoots better, but it has a little more pressure.

Yeah, visit your bro in alvin. let me know in advance, and we'll get try to rustle up a bunch of houston area shooters.
