338 RUM
I really like my 338 Ultra Mag by Remington. I've had it beded. That rifle is real accurate.
Does anybody else have a powerful 338 Rem Ultra
Mag or something else.

Nope, but I have a 340 Weatherby and had a 338-378. To my mind, the 338 WM is more than adequate, with the 340 being at the top end of the 338 food chain. Anything bigger is just too much of a good thing.

I have a .338 Win Mag in that caliber range. In my old age, I simply don't shoot things at ranges that could benefit from a faster .338.

If I need more power within the range I shoot, I have a number of choices to "up gun."

Jro, The RUM is a fine cartridge. It really shines in the long range hunting of large critters. In general it will shoot 10% more bullet at at the same velocity as the .338 WM. In any evert you can use either the extra velocity or BC for those cross canyon shots.

I'm glad yours shoots well. Made sure you have good glass on it, and with practice you will be able to enjoy the full capabilities of your rifle.

A 338-378 Wby for me and it's quite accurate. As most know factory ammo is expensive but I reload so it's not a factor.

shocker

Ah, c'mon Dr. Lou, you know it's a riot to shoot Big Grin.

Dr. Lou makes some good points. They do have more oomph then is necessary and can be problematic for those that are recoil shy. That said, they can poke em out there a long ways especially with a 300 grain bullet. I understand it's quite a combo at 2800 to 3000 fps for extreme long range shooting.

I'm glad to hear yours shoots well for you, enjoy the boom factor tu2.

I had a 338 RUM in a Brown Precision that shot under 1/2" with factory Swift A-Frame 250s. One of the ones you sell, then for years wonder why!!!

Biebs,
how did your 338 Lapua perform for you in Africa?
I am leaving tommorow for a plains game hunt in South Africa,my Rem 700 338 LM is going with me,pretty accurate with handloads shooting a 250gr Hornady@2900 fps,all shots touching @ 100 yrds, recoil not bad at all compared to my 470 NE,I had the brake taken off, kind of a non hunter model, but the gun is just fun to shoot.

That is pretty fast for a 250 gr bullet! Did you mean a 225 gr?
My 338 RUM shoots the 250 gr PT at 3024 fps avg.

What is your load?
