I purchased a 1955 Husqvarna 8x57 w/ an original short side rail commercial mount a number of years ago. It has a 1947 FN receiver, so it is 1 of 10,000 built on from 1947 to 1962 by Husqvarna.
I was always concerned of something happening to the Dark Walnut stock, which is original w/ flat palm swell. I bought a Nutmeg colored Boyds laminate for it. It was much easier then the '96 action I did for my son. This stock is also more functional. I finished it w/ BLO and gun wax.

Looks like a handy rifle. I like the nutmeg color too. Congrats, it turned out nice.

It is commercial! Notice it has 2 levers. the Military has 1 located near the front that locks on an exposed pin. The military is also round at the bottom, not square

Darn, my bad! Sweet set up! Is the bolt pattern the same where it connects to the reciever? I couldn't help but notice that all Swedish Ljungman rifles are drilled and tapped for the military mount and am curious if the commercial would work as well.
(For the record I am not going to bubba up a nice collectible and my personal AG42B is not drilled and tapped, is the onlt one I've handled that not ever was.)

Nice set up.

I just bought one of those stocks from Boyds, and I really like the way it feels and fits me. Apparantly they discontinued the RIA monte carlo stock for the '98, and replaced it with the so-called Dakota Hunter. The styles are very similar, but there is enough difference to cause me to purchase the Dakota, and pass on the RIA. Not offering the RIA in laminate was one thing against it.

The Dakota Hunter is available for the commercial Mauser actions, and the Military actions - apparantly the bottom metal fit inletting is the main difference. The commercial version that I bought appears to be about a #3 barrel channel contour.

I laid the Boyds against a std long action Ruger stock, both brown laminates, to compare. The drop at the heal and toe of the butt of both stocks is very close. The difference of course is in the cheek piece, and comb. The cheek weld for the Boyds is much higher against my cheek bone. The cheek piece is a nice fit.

Anyway, hopefully that gives a comparison that many can relate to. I'm of the opinion that this Boyds stock will solve lots of problems with stock selection for Mausers, at a very reasonable price, and great for the home shop.

I have never liked the Boyds classic JRS stock, because the butt section is too high, leaving a large portion of the pad sticking up and not even touching my shoulder. The butt of the stock IMO, is of no use if it isn't on my shoulder. There are those who buy the classic for looks only. This Dakota Hunter solves that issue very well - for me, and it looks good too. To heck with classic, fit is most important.

The only things I can think of that would make it better is perhaps a palm swell, checkering, and a little cant as well as cast off in the butt from center line. A black forend tip and pistol grip cap would look nice too.

I am currently working on 2 boyds stocked Mausers.

1 is a 260 rem built on a M-48 action, it got the nutmeg laminated featherweight thumbhole stock. Im finishing it with Tung oil. The other is a classic American walnut that I put an ebony forend tip on and its for my M-98 built 35 Whelen. Ill finish it with thinned BLO..

The Laminated Monte carlo on your Husky is an interesting combination.. Looks nice!

You would have an easier time finding a Military mount. These have not been made since the 1950's. The holes will not allign.
