Ruger 77 in 350 Rem Mag
I noticed on Rugers web site that they are advertising the model 77 in 350 Rem. Does anyone know if this is being built on the std length action or the short action? Also if it built on the std action what is the magazine length? A std 06 length magazine would allow seating 250 gr bullets out far enough to not use up valuable case capacity.

snowman,
Just be sure and check whether the Ruger magazine is really a handicap. I think the Rem700s have the shortest magazines and M70s the longest, with Ruger somewhere in between. The Rem700 is definately too short, but the Ruger may not be.
Cheers...

Con & PC Thanks for the comments. Regarding the magazine lengths.I'm not sure which Rem you are refering to. The old Rem mod 600 had a very short magazine as does the new Mod 673. Rem also made some on the std length 700 action. I was looking for a magazine that would allow seating 250 gr bullets to the base of the neck. That results in COL of about 3 1/8 inches. I am aware of what a plain old 338 winnie will do. I've had one in Ruger 77 for about 25 years now. Pretty good rifle. Don't use it much anymore as I prefer my 340 Wby. The 350 Rem with bullets seated out will come very close to 338 ballistics with a shorter barrel and about 15 grs less powder. That will make for a much "handier" rifle in the bush. I will likely have to make up a 350 on a mauser 98 action to get what I want.

Snowman,
A 350 mag on a mauser action is likly to have feeding problems, I have been thinking about a 350 rem mag on a model 70 wsm. Mabye a 20.5 inch manlicher. Or if you prefer a long action just buy a used ruger or mabye use your .338, if you like your Weatherby better.
I have a 35 whelen on a mauser and I like it quite a bit, I doubt it would preform as well as a 350 would with a short barrel.
But with a 24 inch tube the 2 are awfully close together...tj3006

Joecool Could we trouble you to measure the magazine length in your new Ruger? Have you had much of a chance to shoot it yet? What are you using or planning to use for bullets?

Magazine box is 2.900 inches I haven’t shot it a whole lot tried some 225 Partitions and some 250 Hornadys they are grouping around 1 inch or so only powder that I have tried is 760.

Don’t remember the exact velocity but I think the 225s were close to 2800.

2800 fps with a 225 gr bullet in a 350 Rem is sure getting close to the 2900 fps possible with a 338 and a 225 gr. The 338 is burning a lot more powder too.
