SDhunter325 wsm
With all the talk about 338-08's, 338-06, 338 wm. Do you think that winchester came out with the 325 so it wouldn't be in direct competition with it own Win Mag.
I know all the rags say it is more efficient with .323 caliber, but I can't help to wonder what kind of velocities a 338 WSM would get.
More powder than a 338-06 so it would have to be faster than the 338-06.
I am a pretty big fan of the 338-06.

MikelravyI've read several places that Wincheser couldn't get the velocity they wanted in 338 caliber out of the short case. If they could have they probably would have because 8mms don't seem to go over in the US (and bullet selection isn't as good)

Mark DobrenskiMike I've heard that story about the 338 short not getting to the speed they wanted. I do not personally believe it.
I have a 338/300 WSM ( I call it fat bast...), it is just about all a 338 WM is. It has a 21" Schneider tube on it and the other day I was running the 250 MK's at a bit over 2700. I can't see much for difference.
I personally do believe they would of been better off to go 338, but once again that is only this on boyz opinion.
It is a neat lil round, and from what I can tell speed wise it is as close to the 338 WM as the 300 WSM is to the 300 WM's.
It doesn't make any sense to me why they did not go 338....
Have a super day
