Anyone had experience with this calibre ? I am looking at a Husqvarna in this calibre as a possible sambur/ wild cattle calibre .

I'd love to rebore a 98k to 9.3x57, since it should feed perfectly and be rugged as all get out. But that's another thread, and another set of dies...

I shot several feral cattle with a 9.3x62 and some of them died on their way to the ground. The Nosler people told me the 9.3mm Partition won't expand at impact velocities below 2,000 fps. I loaded it to 2,300 fps, making it good to about 200 yards, so the Nosler's hardness will be something to consider if you launch much slower. I found that the 270-gr. Speer was little soft at 2,300 fps in the 9.3x62, but I bet it would be perfect a couple of hundred fps slower in the 9.3x57. I also shot some 250-gr. Ballistic Tips. They seemed to want to shoot well but they hit about 5" above the heavier bullets and I never worked up a decent load for them. Claims of 2,650 fps in the 9.3x62 make sense, so you should be able to pass 2,200 without excess pressure, and Nosler says this bullet will open down to about 1,700 fps. BC is excellent, so I'd look into them if they aren't too dear. I have no experience with the Woodleighs--page PC or Bakes on them.

Good luck with this project. There's something timeless about Mauser cartridges -- if I were wearing a tuxedo and needed to step out of a dinner party to run a maurading whatever off the veranda, I'd do it with an iron-sighted 9.3x57.

I have an old(1942) Husquarna mod 146 in 9,3x57. It's a M-98 and i reload my own ammo. You can bay fabricammo from Norma but I recomend to load you own. Use Lapua Mega, Norma Oryx og Woodleigh all 286grn bullets. Vo is about 630-650m/s. It penetrate deep because it doesn't expand so much. (I could post some pictures of the rifle but I don't know how I do it?)

Thanks guys . The rifle is up for auction locally , has a 98 action , Timney trigger and express type iron sights . Comes with dies and about forty cases so feeding it wont be a problem. Seems there is a ready supply of projectiles , and I can sure find a supply of things to hunt with it. I just might be tempted to buy on impulse here...

I have a Husky in 9.3 X 57 (and 9.3 X 60 and 9.3 X 62). I like them. The caliber is much like the 358 Win, very under rated and a great game killer at normal ranges. Relatively light recoil, and with the 270 speer it's accounted for moose and elk and the occasional deer. Go for it and enjoy. - Dan
