The 9.3x62 doesn't need a lot of weight to be a very fine field piece.

I have a CZ 550 American with a 2.5-8 Leupold with CZ mounts. Ends up pretty light thought I have not weighted it recently so I don't remember exactly how that came out ... but my sense is that it's 9 pounds or so.

The recoil characteristics are wonderful with 286 gr Noslers at 2420 fps. Much less sharp than the .338 Win Mag and a lighter push than a .375 H&H. Killed five animals in Africa during the May trip ... Warthog, Impala, Blue Wildebeast, Kudu, and Zebra. Did not recover a single bullet. Very, very effective!

Don't sweat the weight too much.

I was considering a 9.3x62 and a 9.3x64 about 2 years ago. After discussing both with the gunsmith that was going to do the chambering work I selected the 9.3x64. I have never been sorry. You arn't going to find ammunition or components at Walmart but they are availible.I built my rifle on a mauser action with a 24 in barrel. Loaded it is a little over 8 1/2 lbs.
