MikeyBSucker for a Weatherby...
Welp, I walked in to the local Wholesale Sports store with my Dad as he wanted to get out of the house and I wanted to see what kind of after Christmas deals both they and Cabela's had going on. Cabela's is a block away but doesn't carry Weatherby rifles here, so after we finished trying on $900 jackets and $300 boots we moved on to Wholesale Sports, I asked the counter jockey to hand me the Stainless Vanguard since I knew it was a .257 and showed it off do Dad. I mentioned I was really looking for the blued/synthetic version but the only one they had in stock was in the Sold bin, waiting for pickup when I was in this past Saturday.
The lady at the counter decided to double check the inventory and found it was indeed in the Sold bin, so I asked if I could be notified if a new one arrives. We talk a bit more and Dad gets a feel for it (I already own a .300 Vanguard so I figured this will look smashing in the safe next to it's "big brother").
She decided to go in the back and double check again just to be sure (smelling an easy near close-of-business sale) and found nothing, but the manager said to let me have the rifle in the bin! Apparently it had been on hold for 3 weeks already and the buyer hadn't picked it up.
So she handed it over to me and said "There you go sir, yours if you want it!". I think I set a reaction time record pulling my Possession/Acquisition License out of my wallet. First .257 Weatherby!
Factory target looks good too, 2 pretty much on top of each other and another barely an inch away, if the Sub-MOA's didn't have to shoot .75" at the factory this well could have been one of them. Shot with the 100gr SP load, which I will be using as my starting point. Very pleased.
Thinking of an Elite 4200 2.5-10x40 in Weatherby (Talley) one-piece rings - should make a top-notch long range deer rifle. Will be replacing my aging 7mm Remington Magnum A-Bolt as my main rifle.
I'm going to dig out my old scanner and post up the target when I get a chance.

LivesToHuntThat's the same guy that tested both my Vanguards in .270 Win and .30-06. Seriously though, I love the Vanguard. It is an accurate, good-looking rifle. Great rifle for the price. I had a Timney trigger installed in my .270 and it shoots even better.

Dr. LouAlthough I have never considered them a Weatherby, which is fine because I am not a real Weatherby fan, I hear many good things about the Vanguard. They're supposed to be accurate and a lot of rifle for the money. Lou

Woodrow SI have several of the Weatherby Ultra-Lightweights and they are great(and very accurate) rifles. Weatherby is making a come back after many years of taking a back seat to Remington, Ruger etc., and the .257 Weatherby in particular is seeing a resurgence. It really is a fine cartridge, as is the 270 Weatherby. Vanguards are as quality a rifle as the Mark V is, and shoots just as good as well. Glad you got what you wanted and good shooting with it.

Steve LefforgeFor what it's worth thats the same guy that tested my .378 Weatherby Mag, seventeen years ago.
Congragulations on the .257 Weatherby awsome caliber. I'm on my second one, plus this was Roy's favorite caliber! Many people thought to believe it was the .300 Weatherby, but it wasn't.
When Roy first came out with this caliber he took it to Africa and tested it on Zebra's and on purpose was shooting them at 400 yards and killing the with on shot.
Good-Luck with you're new gun.

Steve
