Does anybody have any data or experience with muzzle breaks. I want to put one on my rifle, but want to get an efficient design so I get the most "bang for my buck".

They have several demo videos to review so you have an idea of how they work... They are very efficient, control muzzle flip and send the noise up and down range so it doesn't beat up the shooter nor anybody around him (very nice concept)...

They are a bit pricey but after spending Weatherby dollars I guess it isn't so bad.. The nice thing is that you can pretty much leave the brake on even when hunting without causing any hearing loss...

The brake on my accubraked Weatherby 338-378 is awesome this guy at extreme rifle works in Palmer Alaska is awesome his name is Rick Steinhour and the # is 907-746-5849 you cant even see the break where it starts.Its also what ever color the barrel is and same contour.He did my 416 rem mag and its awesome.

The most efficient muzzle brake is not to put one on your rifle. That way you can save your ears, and not have your friends think you are a wuss.

The best brake I ever had was made by a local gunsmith named Homer Strickland. I don't think he is making brakes any more sadly. I have a picture around here somewhere I'll post.

KDF without a doubt,...very load but very effective.

I bought a Savage 112BVSS, stainless steel, single shot boltaction, with fluted 26" barrel and promptly ran a 7STW reamer thru it before I ever shot it. It has an original Vais muzzlebrake on it that George Vais made and installed for an article I did for Precision Shooting Magazine. I shot the Nosler 140gr ballistic tip about 3500fps, and the Vais brake lets me see bullet impact out to 500-600yards thru my scope. Yeah, 500-600 yards; Leica Geovid range finder binoculars...

Why not take advantage of the "Weatherby" brake? They won't sell it to you directly but you can send your rifle in to have it put on by a qualified gunsmith. It then becomes "factory". I have one on my Euromark 270Wby and I would say it reduces felt recoil by about 35 to 40%. The nice thing is you can remove it and put on the thread protector for hunting without hearing protection. Just call up Weatherby and ask where the closest place to you, you can have one put on. I have a 340 Custome Shop I am thinking of putting it on to next.

The combination of reduced recoil and very minimal increase in noise by the VAIS brake is unmatched by any other brake.

I put one on made by JP Enterprises and love it. Not much to look at but it tamed my .300 Winny down to about a .243.

I recently built a customer a 30/378 wby mag. The rifle with scope tipped the scales at 12.5 lbs. I put a Vais brake on it and the recoil was like a heavy barreled 243! Vais is the only way to go. Just my .02 worth.
