I am going to give my Rem 700 a face lift. I would like to replace the stock with something special. Now get this, don't yell at me, I want to have this new stock WOOD. Yes, wood. Can anyone recommend a nice termite food stock for my Rem 700??

Richards Micro fit has some good options available..

Boyds also does wood stocks, but I don't think their line is as extensive as Richards is...

I agree with Seafire on Richards Micro fit

And accurate innovations with a full length bedding block.

Do a Search on Northwood Gunstocks on the Classified Forum. He had some great semi-inletted stocks for Remmy's from Exhibition grade to AA grade and his prices were reasonable... in fact, I think he was from Minnesota or Michigan if I recall.

Try Wenig in Missouri. I have two of their Bastogne and one English walnut stocks, inletted for an 1898 Mauser, but I know they inlet for 700 Remington. I spent about $100.00 on the first two and $300.00 on the final one. Beautiful coloration in all three with the third having a nice bit of figure.

I did recessed checkering on the first one, and am about to checker the second and third. Beautiful, close grain, allowing me to take nice long thin chisel cuts when removing wood for the recessed checkering. The wood took 24 lines per inch checkering quite well with no chipping nor mushiness.

Also, wood was very well cured. The first stock soaked up 10-12 coats of linseed oil. The others are unfinished.

Wenig will make your stock with a palm swell, which I opted for. Wouldn't own a rifle without one now.
